When cold it limits to 6500rpm, but when fully warmed up its 7250rpm in 1st, 2nd & 3rd, then 7000rpm in 4th & 5th!
Theres no way it should go to 8000rpm though, even the R-Sport ECU limits you to 7800rpm so Id get it checked...
Yeah, the mk1 172 is not the best handling car of the current 172/182 family...
They roll too much, they understeer when pushed and theres not as much feedback as with the later cars, and this really shows on a track.
The Cup setup is a little lower & a little stiffer, which combined with...
The Cup suspension should just bolt straigt onto a mk1 172?!
Would definately make an improvement IMO as I have trackday experience in both a mk1 172 and a Cup.
Compared to a 172 Sport the standard 182 was better, but compared to my 172 Cup it was not...
However a 182 with Cup suspension "should" be as good as or better than a 172 Cup, but I have yet to drive one.
There wont be as much of a gain from de-catting a 182 as there would be on other cars as it already has a very efficient cat as standard and basically like a "sports cat" fitted at the factory.
Oh, and as the others have said give it some time for the engine to loosen up, it takes a few thou...
My Cup averages mid 30s normally and drops to low 30s with a bit of thrashing, but into the low 40s on a run...
The 172 & Cup are both superb on fuel, the 182 will be as well
Get em told... ;)
Like I said, I am not judging all 182s by this one car as it had b*gger all miles on the clock for a start and may not be a good example.
Not all engines are the same though, and as we all know there are good & bad examples out there...
My Cup is very strong in the mid-range though and I know its a good one from my 1/4 mile times and the RR results.
See how my Cup compares to two standard 172s >>>...
Well its finally happened and I am not as impressed as I thought I should be! :o
Was an Arctic Blue one, with Cup spoilers but without the Cup suspension, which was a shame, but Im gonna find one with it and drive another...
Anyway, had the thing for about 45mins on my own so there was...
Dont even try to compare a TDi with massive amounts of low down torque to a petrol engine...
All the action is 5000rpm and above, but as the engine loosens up they gain low end grunt too.
If you want more low-down & mid-range power then a carbon airbox such as a Pipercross Viper or a BMC CDA...
Thing is though that in reality the 182 is NOT any faster than a Cup...
Sure its 0.2secs faster 0-60, but 0.1secs slower 0-100 and only in the case of the 2 individual cars that Autocar tested, with those drivers and those conditions, not every car in every case!
In the real world line a Cup...
