Air-con is fecked (mk1 172)

As some of you will know I sold my 306 Rallye this weekend and my new Clio Cup aint gonna be ready for another week & a bit, so Ive borrowed my mates mk1 172 off him while he goes on his honeymoon.

Well, I picked it up off him this afternoon and he tells me that the air-con has given up the ghost a couple of days ago, sojust as it gets hot as f*ck and summer kicks in the air-con dies.... nice one Renault!

Anyway, the light comes on if you press the button and if you listen you can hear it making a noise as it should kick in, but it never gets cold.


We got any ideas?!

Sounds like the gas has decanted, so it will need refilling, dont take it to a dealer, look in yellow pages for a mobile AC service, the dealers use these and then charge you an extra £50 on top.

Ye it needs re-gased, mine was the same.. but make sure they check for leaking pipes first as 2 of my pipes had to be replaced, if you take it to a dealer its 150 quid to get re-gased.

My Renault dealer charged £59 to re-gas mine a couple of months ago.

In the mean time it will give you practise for when you get your Cup! I guess you got it without the climate control?

open the window, it even has a button, there no actual manual input in the form of winding it down.

Yeah, never had climate on any of my cars, so I aint gonna miss it...

When I got the 306 Rallye Id had cars with leccy windows for years, but it wasnt that bad really, as they were within easy reach and took minimal effort.

Quite impressed with the level of equipment in the "stripped out" Cup and you get loads more than you did in the Rallye.

It aint even my car, so the owner (my mate) will be well pleased when I give it him back and its washed, vacced out and the air-con is fixed!
