I have no idea as to why it didn't do anything. Perhaps someone else has some more insight into how it's supposed to work.
However, for me, the results of removing it speaks for itself. ;)
I used 60mm dia BMC alloy hose for the side intake (a tight fit connecting to the fitting) and a 50mm dia pipercross hose for the bottom intake. The lengh of the side hose is around 40cm, slightly longer than the standard lengh of the hose plus valve. The end of this hose is attached to the...
Since the valve doesn't seem to do much when the engine has warmed, its has no other purpose other than to cause a restriction.

I agree with the match inlet and remap if you have a non RS inlet, however, that is around £500. If you...
Keep the standard airbox, remove the acoustic valve and replace the cr@ppy intake hoses with less restrictive itmes, the lower intake needs a 50mm dia. and the side needs 60mm dia. I didn't feel much difference except low down in the rev range, however, timed/videoed runs showed that mine was a...
Heres the valve all connected up doing sweat FA. The engine was warm at the time so perhaps it only works on a cold engine.

Heres a run before the removal of the AV on a cold evening:

I have an ITG open induction kit for sale! PM me if you're interested. Will include the silicone hose adapter and the L bend intake for attaching to the throttle housing.

I've removed the said valve, car drives better at low revs when in a high gear. Pick up from 1.5k rpm is better as the engine no longer what I can only describe as "grumbling". I have replaced AV and hoses and attached a 60mm alloy hose of a similar length to the AV and "furry" hose to the...
I used to get the creaking noise from the top mount. Erradicated it by adding a few drops of oil on rubber bushing that sits in the suspension turret. Took a few miles for the oil to work in but now have no creaking!
I have one of these, makes oil change a real doddle and you don't have to worry about getting underneath the car.

It extracts the oil via the dipstick hole.
Where's the fun in that? Besides my garage is full of none car related junk!!! In the same vain, why don't you run your car without a filter by having an unfiltered pipe run from the front of the car directly to the throttle housing to get maximum bhp and noise?:rasp:
The results in those tests far from being conclusive. However, based on their findings, I tend to err on the side of caution. I rather spend more to have the filter changed more frequently to ensure the best protection and longevity for the engine rather than risk unfiltered dirt getting into...
Not sure if this has been posted before, but this test shows that foam filters perform badly in filtering efficiency, while "wet/oiled" cotton was a little better.

In the test below, it showed that a clean paper filter is in fact the least...
I'm 36, does that make me "mature"? I still love driving my Clio, only last night I took it out for a blast in the p1ssing rain because the mood took me! Had a great blast around the country lanes just for the sh1ts and giggles! I tend not to race (especially since it was very wet last...
All Renault need to do when the current Clio is near end of life, is to apply the same principles Honda when it built its new JDM Civic Type R. Release a limited edition, stripped of all its sound deadening, thinner glass, remove all luxuries and driver aids (bar ABS), add an LSD, Sachs...
Sorry I assumed from your opening sentence that it was to aid the purchase of a house.
I've recently bought a Trophy, its a fantastic car, great handling etc but as its French, it's gonna depreciate, even if its a limited edition. I've not been in a 197 let alone driven one, so can only go by...
But if you're buying a house, £2k is not gonna get you very far. If you need money for a new house, then selling the 197 and getting a cheap runaround would be more sensible, however, as a compromise, Clio172 Cups can be had for around 5K, giving you an extra £7k
Yeah the BMW does use a lot of petrol for the short journeys I do, around 26-27mpg, and costs nearly £60 to fill up! But it does have an lovely silky smooth engine, makes the Clio's 4 pot seem agricultural in comparison. But with the Clio its a more respectable 30-33mpg, doesn't sound much but...
Well its been a while, but I've returned to Clio ownership and went the whole hog and got myself a Trophy. The BMW was a great car, great to drive, fantastic build and lovely engine, but missing that "something". Now have something cheaper to run and more suited for my use and though I already...
I'm not bothered by image of a car, I like a car for what it is and how it drives, image doesn't come into the equation. Some may say the same with the Clio driven by chavs/boyracers etc. But does that really matter? for me the Clio 172/182 is a fantastic drivers car thats thats a real hoot...
I would be mainly using the car to commute to the station every week day, which is a around 6 miles in total. Weekends it'll be used for pleasure and errands to near by towns on a mix of A roads and B roads. I do around 8k-9k miles per year. I currently have an MPV to carry the family, but...
I want something thats entertaining to drive, both are, though the Clio still has the edge in fun factor, it'll be a long term ownership prospect, I guess the BMW would age better in that respect. Thats it really, long term ownership and entertaining drive. Running costs is around the same as...
First I apologise for posting in this forum instead of "other marques" as I don't have the previleges.
I've not posted on here for a while, not since I sold my Clio172 back in 2004 and I'm thinking of coming back to the Clio fold! I understand that I may not get a completely unbiased...
I feel I'm qualifed to pass comment on the merits of both cars since I ran a MKII 172 with Eibachs for 2 and a half years before my current car, a manual BMW 325 Sport (E46). Totally different cars requiring different driving styles. Performance wise they are virtually identical, 0-60 around 7...
I've owned both 172 and 20Vt. The Fiat is way faster off the line and through the gears, 0-100 in 14.5 secs and 30-70 5 secs. Straight line it won't have any problems leaving a 172. On a twisty b road, the Clio would be faster. Despite the LSD on the Fiat, it majors on understeer, the Clio a...
Congrats on what is probably the most sought after Clio ever. I sort of went the other way, Clio172 > Audi A4 > BMW325 due to kids. I still miss the 172 with its zippy performance and chuckable handling, but now starting to appreciate RWD and wet roundabouts!!(minus the little passengers of...
Why settle for an MPV? there a quite a few cars for £9000 that will entertain and ferry the family around,
Skoda Octavia VRS Estate
Audi A4 Avant 1.8T Quattro Sport
Honda Accord Type R
MG ZT190
SAAB 9-5 2.3HOT Aero
To name a few, ok they may be slightly older and with slightly higher...
