It was properly remapped without the airbox to "simulate" what I would get if fitted with an induction kit and it would be the freest flowing filter since there were no filters attached. Heat soak wasn't an issue since the car was sitting in front of huge funnel that channeled cold air from...
I think manufacturers advise a running period as things like brakes will not be as effective until bedded in and also for the driver to "acclimatise" to the new car. It would be irresponsible for a manufacturer to advise new drivers it give the car a thrash to gain more power and increase the...
You can't really apply the results of what was tested in a Ford magazine since that the car tested was completely different!! Still IMO the gains, if any, doesn't warrent the cost a Viper/ BMC/ITG etc. My proof of this is that when I had my car remapped on a RR with standard airbox with better...
IMO you're not gonna see any gains with an IK. When I had my car RR, we did a back to back run with and without the standard airbox so that it was sucking air in directly from the throttle housing. It gained 1 bhp without the airbox.
Halfords 5w/40 is made by Comma (owned by Exxon/Mobil) and is Comma Syner-G 5w/40 fully synth and meets ACEA A3 B3 API SL CF MB 229.1, VW 502.00/505.00, BMW Longlife 98, Porsche industry standards just like the expensive stuff.
IMO, as long as the oil meets those standards and the requirements...
I don't use polish unless I have to and generally use it once every 6 months and for that I use Meguires Deep Crystal Polish to remove light swirl marks and blemishes. The rest of the time I use P21S (now called R222) wax. It doesn't last long but its not an issue for me since I always apply...
Ummm except that the 172 Cup has FBW accellerator so theres not direct connection between the right foot and the throttle!! The ECU controls the throttle so you're never fully in control!:rasp:
The quality of the components and engineering are there where it matters most, the seats, the suspension, the brakes, the engine. IMO, unless you're a track day junkie I think the standard brake setup is more than adequate, I've experienced no fade or any braking issues on my back road jaunts...
Renault have built up good reputation as a hard core hot hatch over the years with its different incarnations of the Renaultsport Clio would never tarnish that reputation by using items that aren't up to the intended task.
There is little power to be gained TBH with exhaust and intake on their...
Strange this, I've never had any problems with my brakes, in fact I think they're great as they and do the job perfectly well on my jaunts on my fav country roads, no fade experienced. This is reflected in numerous reviews in Evo, Autocar, Car, TopGear etc. In fact in Autocar a 172 (same...
All the crap will be in the filter. If you're talking about sludge, etc, then you're using poor quality oil or not changing it regularly. I get around 5ltrs out of my Trophy with the extractor, how much more should I be taking out?! Incidentally, I heard many and have seen a few garages using...
That someone was probably me! I have one and makes oil changing a doddle. No need to get under the car. Just feed the extraction tube into the dipstick tube and suck out the oil. This is where I got mine. 6ltre capacity should be enough...
Think you'll have to forget the plug as you may cause more damage. Get an oil extractor like one of these:
You extract the oil from the dip stick tube.
Am I right in thinking that Renault obtain their power/torque figures by dyno'ing a "reference" engine on a "rig" running the engine with out any ancilliaries connected, eg, air con, heater matrix, other bits that cause a drain on the electrical system etc, hence the slightly lower figures when...
Unlike turbo'd/supercharged cars which can see gains in excess of 30-40bhp, it's normal to only see smaller gains from a normally aspirated car.
Engines with forced induction generally make their gains from upping the boost and increasing fuelling.
I'm 6' and have no problems with head or leg room. Main thing is to go out and take a test drive. Go to www.cliotrophy.co.uk for more Trophy specific info.
Your never too old, I'm 36 and I went from a "mature" car BMW 325i Sport to a Clio Trophy! ;)
The Megane R26 has been consistently rated above the Golf and Focus in a number of magazines and is Evo's favorite hot hatch at the moment. Of those you've considered, I'd pick the R26. But it...
The standard box (minus the acoustic) valve is very good. I had my car RR and remapped recently and the guy took off the airbox to see if unrestricted airflow would increase power. It did increase power....by 1bhp! Though my airbox is modded slightly, L bend samco induction pipe, 50mm and...
