when i had my Golfs, I used to flip the computer off the time setting ( i hate knowing what the time is - makes me realise how little of it is left) and onto the oil temp setting. I do admit to having an oil obesssiom. I used to watch the oil temp like a hawk in the Golf (look, its up two...
oh God, the rumours are true - Im losing the plot.
But chaps, I honestly do all that stuff. Very careful with the engine/gearbox when cold by keeping the revs down, waiting for the oil ok light to go out, take care not to warp the disc after some hard braking, 4th - neutral - 5th, kiss at...
ive not done any modding, but i do things to my Clio when driving. For instance, I never drive off until the oil ok light has gone off and the mileage popped up. I never use 2nd gear from cold (ok for me, as i live at the top a hill so can coast in third nice and easy). When using 5th for the...
Cliosport bosses - there was an article on the home page last week by that ex-police driver, talking about braking. I only read it quickly and wanted to re-read it later but its gone now. Any chance of letting me know how i can view it again?
many thanks,
g
ok, tops! thanks KDF. My dads garage will do it, not Renault. Altough he can get the service schedule, i just wanted to check if there was anything beyond the bleedin obvious he should know about in advance. That reminds me - he can check what I think is a slight clonking from the nearside...
hy peeps,
hope youre all well. Pls, what do you get for a 24k (at 24k) service on a 172? Im assuming brake fluid change, levels topped up, oil + filter, air filter, pollen filter. How long do the plugs last? Are they 60k plugs or will they need changing at 24k? If theres anything Ive missed...
I believe so. The tyre place had no info at all about the Exalto 2s, not until 1 April but my tyres couldnt wait that long, so I had to go for them. Still very please with them!
g
eh? Theyre not Exalto 2s, theyre the current ones that are about to be superceded by the Exalto 2s. They are 195/45/R16s. I think I paid £89 per tyre. (yes, I could have got them cheaper etc etc, but it was a needs/must action.
g
I am liking these tyres! Got them on saturday, I didnt have time to shop for a lower price so prolly got a bit stitched, but anyway.
I still dont think the Conti was a bad tyre, but the Michelins seem to complement the steering in particular even better. They dont feel like they squidge as...
Ive just had my front pads changed, all in for £69.00. Still bedding them in. Theyre probably cra5 but must be better than the ones that had no life let in them.
g
Stromba, what about the last Maserati Quattroporte V8? Discrete, very quick, sounds great, and not too obvious a choice. Probably hopeless in many ways, but still quite appealing.
g
matey, I left the car repayments, petrol, tax and insurance off my calculations, as you accept these as givens (well, I do!)
Guess i wanted to see how it faired re: servicing, tyres, and incidental or unexpected expenses (like when I fuc5ed my wipers up!).
Sure, my car has cost me more to...
lol, yeah, i must admit i was in two minds as to whether I should work out how much it had cost me in case i got a shock! Instead, a nice surprise :)
g
ah, sorry, I was being a donkey again - i thought Stromba meant he didnt want a V6 engine in a car, rather than a Clio V6. I wondered what it was he didnt like about V6 engines rather than what he didnt like about the Clio V6.
And as an NSX has a V6 engine, then I have been a double-donkey...
ok, my 172 is two at the end of May. Last night, i jusyt tallied up what it has cost me so far. This includes servicing, tyres, the 6k oil changes, brake pads (front), but not petrol, insurance etc etc obviously. It has cost me £648.12. Now, its due for a 24k service, and a new set of front...
for what its worth, my dad has years of working with/owning 60s, 70s and 80s Ferraris. But hed have an NSX over a 328GTB for instance, which says something.
Stromba, just out of interest, why do you not want a V6?
g
hiya Viv!
22,000 miles out of the pads. My dad did warn me they only had 5k left....erm, 5,000 miles ago. Some high speed braking yesterday resulted in not much slowing, but a nasty grinding noise. The discs seem ok, not scored, so hopefully I might get away with pads...well see!
g
poundrick, thanks matey! but ive just booked it into a place near slough, quoted £60 inc VAT. Where are Brakes Int based mate? Also, do you mean they/the mechanic has to push the brake piston back? what happens if they dont (impacto??)
g
PMSL! yeah okay, smart arse, take the mick out of the weird kid in the corner why dontchya! :) (had a bit too much weed n wine at the weekend)
ok I meant...erm, who did i mean? what are they called? Kwick fit? Thats who i meant :)
can they do it?
g
pads are shagged I learnt yesterday - does Kall Kwik (or whoever) do pads/fitment for a 172? I dont have time to book into reno, ive taken half a day off tomorrow to sort it - need to drop in and wait while its done. any ideas?
cheers,
g
Theres a few minor things that bug me a bit about the Clio, but the one thats way off the the irritation scale for me, is the turning circle/poor lock.
Whats your biggest Clio-gripe (excluding dealers)?
g
i read about this accident somewhere, I remember it because it had an old Morris Minor in it. Now that Ive learnt it involved one of us, it sends a shiver down my spine.
I dont think a Minor would have offered hardly any protection at all, so it would not have taken a serious impact to have...
dont get me wrong - i may not have floored it (i.e. mashed the pedal to the floor) but its been redlined in all gears up to 4th, but not by flooring it. I honestly dont think even when redlining it ive felt that resistance before.
Most of the time I drive quite slow anyway.
g
Daipac, it comes from my (mis-placed) believe that flooring it is pointless. There always seems to be a slight delay as the engine/ecu thinks hmmm, thats an interesting instruction. Dont get that very often. Does he really want full power?, then it comes along.
I personally prefer a strong...
