Loony - I understand your reply to my comment, but Im not sure that I understand if youre agreeing with me or not. To be clear, although I think this is unreasonable and unworkable, I would like them banned largely through my fear that they will create havoc for me if Im hit (in my Clio-sized...
Ive said this before that the arguments for and against 4wd are both flawed. I cant understand why people who buy them rarely say I bought it because I like it, rather then dress their point up in a load of old tosh about safety/practicality etc. Then the anti 4wd lobby makes comments about tiny...
nice ideas!
I was thinking about something less radical though (i.e. dirt cheap!). The Clio Cup lower splitter for example? does this actually do anything? you may have gathered i couldnt care less whether it does or not, but it looks quite good and I trust in within budget :-)
The...
in the almost three years I have had my Clio, I have lavished thousands of pence on high end mods. Heres what I have done:
Painted the Renault Sport bit on the Cam cover in red. My, what a racy engine I now have!
I have added a sticker to the rear window. It has a lot of squiggles on it...
I agree that .7% too much tint is petty, but look at it from their point of view: if the legal figure is 30% max, and youre tints are 30.7%, then youre over. They have to draw the line somewhere. Aside from the law, what about your insurance? If you crashed and they found that your tints were...
hiya Rob, hope all is well.
agree with your point re: the Xenons, but there will be some people who desperately want a used Golf Gti but cant stretch to one with Xenons, just to be on the Golf ladder. They will buy my car when Im done with it ;-)
Alfa - as ever, always in my heart and mind...
i *think* its £19,300 the way that I want it.
I think its £2k overpriced, but when you look at it in the flesh, its perceived value is above £17k for sure. If not quite £19k...

Tom, ive noticed that shorter people do seem to be less affected by poor driving positions. Next time i do a long journey, do you mind doing the driving ;-)
g
Indeed, the Golf is pricey. But it is well specced and kit-wise it has all that I need. Id like the leather, but Im not paying £1,600 notes for it. The Xenon lights (£700) are just not worth it IMHO, based on experience with the renos lights, the sat nav i dont need (i never go anywhere), the...
meant to add, in all fairness to the renault, the only two makes that I get full support and comfort from have been Saabs and Mercs. The Ibiza, to use Seat as an example, Swervin, is fine except again if the seat base went back and inch more, it would be perfect. Id be interested to see what the...
i have a test drive with the new Golf GTi next weekend. It should help to put the Clio (which I like a lot) into perspective and indeed to see whether the new Golf is as good as they say it is. Comments to follow after the test drive.
g
Jeremy, how close are you to new Clios development team? If you have a line in to them, any chance you can share this with them?
A three hundred-mile trip yesterday on a rain-lashed motorway, gave me plenty of time to think about whats wrong with the Clios driving position. The magazines...
yes chaps, it is the headlight washer. (Apologies, I didnt make that clear in my post).
I could do without it happening now as I need to drive to Nottingham tomorrow and someone else has booked the company hack, so my spine will be shaped like a cork screw by the time I get there, as well as...
yesterday, I brimmed the Clios (empty) washer bottle, then gave my screen a quick squirt. Four hours later, i went back to the car to find a big puddle by the offside front tyre. I traced the puddle back to the spoiler (dripping), the offside fog light surround, the fog light, up the bumper and...
thanks chaps, some good food for thought there. Im seeing the Seat this coming Saturday...and Ive booked a test drive in the new Golf GTi for the weekend after next (which is a bit of a surprise given everything else Ive said about being tired of hot hatches and wanting to spend less money on...
correct Chris. Theyve rejigged the line up. The Sport is now a de-specced SE which is a pity as the SE was nicely specced for the money the Sport - comes with air rather than climate, etc. And yep Mike, its £10k for a new Sport. I may try and see one on Sunday so will update you next week.
g
is it cheaper? My dealer has a new 1.9TDi Sport (they have dropped the SE - drat) for £10k. The one I drove was built ok enough for me, and...I prefer the inside of the Seat, too. Sorry matey! ;-)
g
Clioturs - the cost of running the Clio isnt an issue, as much as the principle of spending so much on running costs. Id love another weekend toy like my old GTV6, but I dont have the space for a second car. Maybe one day!
Mike - no offence matey, but I prefer the look of the Ibiza over the...
troops, bit of a car conundrum. I was going to sell the Clio at the end of May when it hits three years/36k. I was going to buy an Ibiza 1.9TDi SE. Reason being that Im sick to the back teeth of paying high insurance, petrol every week, and tyres every 10k. I want to beat the system a bit and...
having driven a 147GTA, and a 156GTA, I would say this - even if they are not as fast point 2 point on a bumpy, fast road as a 182, the moment you fire up that V6, you will be totally mesmerized by that car. I know the 182 is fabulous and arguably better, but the GTAs are wonderfully brawny and...
i think mate its all relative. I had no expectations of my Clio being anything other than average in terms of build and problems. The probs I had have been minor and did not detract from my overall enjoyment of what is a fundamentally delightful and robust car. The build is better and more solid...
172 Exclusive - apologies for the late reply.
You are absolutely correct! I took the key apart, lifted the PCB and there rattling about was the little switch with the tiny click button on it. Ive worked out where it goes, but Im not sure if i have the skill to solder something that small...but...
I quite like the 4k rattle. As you accelerate, the car goes:
brrrrrrrr
gggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
ggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ - ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
and your passengers say "what the FECK was THAT?!"
Ace.
g
i like the fact the Clio tells you through its steering that its slippy out there. Maybe it warns you earlier than other cars that its dangerous out there at the moment. Makes me go slower, and if that means I make it to the other side of Christmas then thats a good thing, si?
g
why would you want to check the oil level when the engines hot? Shouldnt it be done when its stone cold to give a better indication of how much is in there?
Heard a nice story once about someone who checked the oil. It was low on the dipstick, so they turn the dipstick upside down and said not...
