I wasnt keen on the xenons in my MK2 because:
1. The light was excellent, it just didnt shine far enough ahead.
2. People used to put their lights on full beam when mine were dipped. Pissed me off as I already couldnt see anything because of point 1.
Im happy with the dipped mk1 172...
Found the website while I was searching a Clio to buy. Joined the club the day it started as a club (I think?) down at a Hillpower open day.
Got a free Carnoisseur catalogue for joining that time. What do we get now? Charged more than twice as much for a pen that doesnt work ;)
I think there were about 1500 UK mk1 172s sold, plus imports on top of that. Mail Renault UK from their website regarding this if you want exact figures. They will actually tell you (although I doubt theyll give info about number of imports).
Carcraft are total cowboys. People I know who have made the mistake of buying cars off them have had no end of trouble. Theyre so bad, Id rather buy off a Renault dealer....and thats saying something!
No no no! Definitely was warmer! It was between 2c and 5c on the dashboard temp. gauge first time. 6c last time. Ken said it was colder 2nd time, but he was wrong.
Back to back runs with the Viper, so clear gains. Same with when we tested Richs Cup last week with Viper and open throtte body.
Been trying to call to talk about results but no answer....!
I see it on my mk1 172.....but I have a very early one (June 2000). I think the gear light appears on the W and some X reg 172s, then discontinued at end of X and Y.
The Exclusives were the last 172 172s built and dont have the light.
Its not on the later mk1 172s. Its not much use (too small) so I wouldnt worry about it. You can install a big aftermarket gear change light for about £50 if you want one.
Cuppy - yes, thumbs up. Itll make a noticeable positive difference to your car. Dont expect big bhp gains, but do expect it to make you a bit quicker.
BHP at the wheels? We dont know because the bhp was being measured at the wheels. I think 15% is a rough figure for FWD, but it varies, so why...

The blue line is the data from the graph of my run today.
The pink line is my run from two weeks ago.
The yellow line is the data from the graph of todays...
Hmmm.....Ill put up some graphs in a min. The data thats printed on the You today vs Me today graph and the data on the graph of just my run is different. Totally different.
I know youre just kidding, but read accross your graph with a ruler, and 156bhp peak looks right. Run a ruler accross my graph, and it reads 155bhp (nearly 156). Read down on mine, and that peak is at 6400rpm. Yet for some reason the text on the bottom of the graph says "150bhp at 6400rpm". On...
Can you take another pic as straight as possible so I can draw a grid over it on the computer?
According to my graph, my peak power was around 155bhp, not 150bhp as written on the graph. WTF?!
EDIT - Forget it, that pics more or less straight. Ill do it off that.
