    Sounds exactly like what happened to my 172 recently...started getting sticky, then the revs started bouncing, then the revs would stick at about 4k rpm...If Id left it any longer it woulda snapped on me.

    Sticky accelerator...check it for wear at the pedal end (loose strands, cable not tightly wound) If you find anything like that, replace the cable ASAP.

    Id suggest SMT6 more mapping points and options than the Dastec...cheaper too (I can get the chip for under £100) If you liked, I could probably get you the chip and ship it to you, but then youd still have to get in installed and tuned (which might negate any cost advantage)
