ps. watch you keep the engine bay cool when on the RR...my speedo sensor melted and started a small fire:o in the engine bay
Well it depends which bhp you use;)
over here (SA) 1bhp = 0.7458kW
in france 1bhp = 0.7209kW
in the UK I believe 1bhp = 0.7337kW
and finally 1lb/ft = 1.3605Nm
so my peak power of 86.3kW = 115.8hp (SA) = 117.6bhp (UK) = 119.7hp (FRA)
and my 145.8Nm = 107.2lb.ft

I can only guess between the input and the outputs...but I know nothing.
He did tell me it was wasted spark and the reason the injectors were being cut was because the management wasnt recieving the correct signal back from the coil...

Next up, im hoping BenR might be able to give me a way of getting round the problem with the injectors being shut-off...then Ill get the injector timing done...might yield even more ponies.

While my car was at PP, they did map the signal, so should anyone want to install a SMT-7 onto the mk1 172, they shouldnt have any problems getting that info :)
My tuner and I did discuss going to a stand-alone system but for my purposes, its not really worth...
They tried putting in a resister (I think) but didnt want to put too big a one in for fear of blowing the management.
Can you explain this 2 stage operating system stuff to me...but I think they did try connecting it straight
hi guys...I got the car back this morning from having the SMT6 installed and tuned and Im very happy with the results.
Biggest power gain was made at 4000rpm where I gained 5.4 kW
Biggest torque gain was made at 1500rpm where I gained 23.6 Nm
Peak torque was up by 6.1 Nm but the bonus is now...

Im also going to consider an upgrade to the SMT7 once its released as that can apparently...
Yeah...most of the noise is then turnin the wheel, doesnt matter if Im driiving or stationary...also when the car is just sitting and idling I can hear a slight noise, almost like a belt, but not squealing.
The steering doesnt get heavy though...still as smooth and easy as it always was
Over the last few days my power steering has started making a whirring noise when cold, and turning the wheels. The whirring gets louder as revs increase...so my first thought is that the PAS belt was slipping...anyway...just to be sure I checked the PAS fluid which was very low...so filled up...
Now you all know how I feel living down here in deepest darkest HOTTEST africa...and then just to make things even better, Im at altitude (1500m above sealevel) so my poor little 172 only make 115hp @ wheels as standard

Unfortunately didnt get a chance to play with fueling over the weekend, but the car is in today for a session on the RR...Should be ready by 4pm...cant wait:)

Well after spending the afternoon at PerfectPower, it was determined that the 172s ECU really didnt like the SMT6 controlling the coilpack so after about 20 seconds it would promtly shut off the injectors....so inteligent is it that if the SMT6 was only connected to one set of injectors and the...
Hes taking the car through to Perfect Power this morning so they can put an osciliscope onto the car to try trace the problem.
Anyway, the car was cutting out randomly...didnt matter if it was idling, or being revved.
Is there anything strange about the crank signal etc which might be...
Well hes a VW specialist, never worked on Renault before let alone a 172...Unfortunately we dont have Renault tuners here...but I trust this guy to be honest with me, and not screw me over

Theyve installed the chip and the car runs, but then all of a sudden just cuts out.
