I did one which started out dry then at the end of the day went all wet.
This was just before I changed my front tyres so they were really no help in the wet.
Was fun, but you really dont go very fast, and I wouldnt risk trying to pass someone anywhere near a corner but its loads of fun to...
I know, and stupid me formatted my PC twice now without backing up my outlook files...so maybe this time if you send it to my tuner he wont lose it, or even better to both of us.
Did I say I could do it myself? Dont recall...but then again Im pretty daft at remembering stuff
Hi Andy...Tried to PM you but your box is full up at the moment.
My tuner has just emailed me saying that hes having loads of fun with trying to install the chip into the 172 because the map sent by PP is not right.
So basically Im in a bit of a pickle here as I need either the diagram for...
Well I drive a mk1 and love it...actually prefer the look to the mk2...also as a drivers car its more raw...
more toys than a cup, but less toys than the newer mk2s
I think when it comes to things to look for, just use common sense...
is it a mk1 172?
If so its most probably the 172 Exclusive....green in colour, different wheels.
Was produced at the end of the mk1 run (I think only 172 were produced)
The 4" Slash cut is what I have on my car and it looks good...just not chromed though...brushed stainless...nice and subtle

Well the main reason Ill be switching maps is because in every day driving weve only got access to 93RON fuel, but when I get onto the track I have access to 102RON so it would be nice to have a track map and a everyday map (mainly to prevent detonation when Im running our crappy everyday fuel)...
I think the other point people forget is that for the results to be accurate, you need to test on a flat surface which most roads are not, and even a small undulation in a road can lead to a few tenths of a second difference over the real results
Ive also wondered about that.
Ive currently got fully synth 5W40 in the car...warms up nice and quick now compared to the sludge that was in there (looked like Renault never changed the oil in the last 30k miles).
Should I maybe be using 10W50 or even 15W50
Just as a point of interest, Ive got an AP22, and over the 1/4 mile its accurate to within 0.02s and 0.6mph, and this was tested on the strip against the official timing equipment
To those that were interested.
I dropped my 172 off today at my mates workshop to have my SMT6 installed.
First thing I asked him was it possible to add a switch so I could change maps while driving...he said hed do that.
Hes also going to put in the data cable so I can tune the car on the...
Ive decatted my mk1 172, and added a cat back freeflow system, car is running fine, but Im going to chip it anyway...let you all know by tuesday what the results are
I bought my car 2nd hand with 205/45 16" (never had the 15") and the car is still plenty quick...
Ive also noticed that its quicker than every mk2 Ive gone up against, so couldnt have slowed me down that much
Shouldnt be any more difficult than a 172
Basically these are the steps.
1. Loosen the cap on the brake fluid resevoir
2. Jack up car
3. Remove front wheel
4. Undo inside nut at the bottom of the caliper (might need a screwdriver to pry a bit to make job easier)
5. Remove nut and...
Basically this is the finding:
1. "Transform your performance" - NOT TRUE
2. "Save money on petrol" - NOT TRUE
3. "Reduce emmissions" - NOT TRUE
4. "New product" - TRUE
Not a problem...
Just thought you might be interested in the updated version of the SMT6 (FMRC1) which does allow extra features, and is only available thru my mate (since he helped develop it).
The main advantages of the SMT6 over the Unichip is that the SMT6 have more mapping sites so tuning is a lot better to do, it also offers things like the ability to progressively control NOS etc
You can also store 2 maps which can be changed at the flick of a switch while driving, so you could...
Alright guys, Ive spoken to my mate and hes gonna give us the updated SMT6 chips for 70 pounds each provided you order 5 or more.
Ill see how much shipping comes to and let you all know
The new chip (FMR1) is basically a SMT6 but with the ability to do closed loop lambda tuning as well...
that was a typo...meant to type oil...dunno why I typed fuel.
No dripping oil so I guess Im ok with regard to the oil seals.
*sighs a big sigh of relief*
