I need a quick favour from W1,2 and 3 owners.
I need to know how many wires enter the WHITE block connector thats located in your relay box, which is just in front of the NSF suspension turret under the bonnet.
I dont have a 1,2 or 3 here at the moment so I cant check for myself. I...
We have broken 1. It was in the 300s but cant remember the exact number. And if you look at the site youll see why it was broken!
I am currently reshelling 0238 and am about to become the owner of 0200. 0279 was my old car and currently for sale.

Tom,
They do come up on ebay from time to time. I had to pay quite alot for mine but I bought a set (1,2 and 3)....expect to pay about £30-50 for the set.
Just be thankful you dont want Lotus Carlton memrobelia - ridiculous prices isnt the word!
Paul
The Lotus Carlton above was not reshelled - it was fitted with a new sill/pillar assembly. For the record, we did not carry this work out, just sold the car on to a Lotus club member.
I hear what you are saying Matt about metal strengths - you are ofcourse quite correct. This is one of the...
Bear in mind that the rules have now changed.
Cat C cars now have to be inspected after their repair before a V5 will be issued, this ensuring the intergrity of the repair.
IMO absolutely nothing wrong with buying a damaged repaired car - so long as the damage areas have been repaired...
These can be a real pain these Renault ones - coupled with the fact that the williams alloys leave little room for manouvre.
In the past, I have managed to weld a new bolt onto the existing locker...sometimes it holds, sometimes it doesnt. A thinish bolt (M8 or similar) and a damn good...
This is the 5-6th case of this happening with the mk2 172s that I have heard.
What a sod, I know several people in Renault let me see what info I can glean.

Antony,
Im surprised at this as we always take everything off by removal of nuts/bolts, never cutting anything.
I can only assume these doors were a) not removed by me or b) were part of a part purchase we made a while back involving some panels.
If you get really stuck, do let me know.
Paul

Bridge the thermoswitch plug with car running to make sure fan/loom wiring is OK with car running....its obviously OK with it stopped....
Otherwise, more than likely the thermoswitch as already suggested.

To give you an idea, we book this out at about £200 inc all parts and labour.
Usually takes between 1.5 and 2.5 hours...one thing to watch - the torx headed bolts on the top part of the cam cover - these can get very tight and it doesnt take much to round them, especially the couple that are...
These are best undone with a curved ring spanner and allen bit in a 3/8 drive socket. Be careful not to round the allen head off.
Failing that - impact wrenchs with a 21mm socket usually remove the nylock nuts without spinning the strut...
A little heat will help too, only a little mind...
Dave is right....if the chassis is undamaged, then it could be back on the road for 2/3 the price you would pay for a 500 mile s/h one.
LHD granted....but I bet the reserve is about 40-45k.

Its nice to see old boys driving cars we love so much...
When I was at uni, a pensioner used to own a 5 GT Turbo Raider....like new it was. I beleive he still has it...
Age only a number, never to old ;-)
