The crunch noise will be your synchro on 2nd gear mate, what youre doing is racing the synchro, its not having chance to spin up to speed match before being engaged.

You can get the exhaust off in one piece - no need to cut it. If you want any advice, drop Fred2001dynamic a PM.

Who cares about a silly spoiler, the sat-nav is worthwhile matey (But the reason you cant have it is because the sweep on the cup antenna is less than on the standard 172/182 to cope with the bigger spoiler - and they dont make a gps+radio antenna that is swept like the cup one.)

Ok, this is a mk1 valver yeah? therefore youve got a return line via the regulator, so all that may have happened is air pockets may have been introduced into the fuel rail, so letting it try and fire, then turning fully off and then letting it pressure up again a few times should do the trick.

Ok, youve got two options, either weight loss or and increase in power output.... Weight loss, on a 172 you can lose about 40kgs by taking out the back seats, spare wheel and toolkit, and maybe lose another 25-30 or so by swaping the front seats for buckets..... Power gains...

For keeping your power Id say - Standard airbox with the original filter element - just change it more often than the service interval.
