    If you hit the limiter then you will have done a slower 0-100 run than if you would have changed up at a sensible point. The rev limit is there to protect the engine, not to provide an indication that you should be in the next gear. It will not damage your car by bouncing off the limiter...

    Kind of. It will only let one wheel turn a predefined amount faster than the other before it starts to pull the other wheel with it. There are loads of factors and parameters for a LSD. How much slip is alowed, how quickly to accelerate the other wheel etc.
