Anti lag means that a turbo that would usually spool at 3,500rpm for arguments sake would spool at 1,500rpm for example.
It does this by sending loads of mixture through the cylinders, but retarding the ignition so that not much of it burns. The unburnt fuel ignites on the exhaust manifold (as...
Lean is bad under heavy load but when you are on overrun lean is fine.
While on overrun, the air/fuel mix is lean and the engine is reving around the 7,000rpm mark. Only a small percentage of each cylinder is full of mixture as the throttle body is firmly shut.
This small amount of air/fuel...
The rally car pops, bangs, and flames are caused by the anti-lag system (as someone said earlier).
The road car pops and bangs are actually caused by a lean mixture which is the opposite to what most people believe.
TVRs pop because I dont think that they work on closed loop lambda mode...
RobFenn: Stating that Skylines cannot do over 200 mph only shows that you know nothing at all about them.
I can send you a video of one from a company I used to work for doing 209 mph along a 1.5 mile runway.
I can also send you a video of another which is an RH9 car (from Veilside in Japan)...
Youll be paying at least £2000 to have the engine stripped and built again. New pistons will set you back at least another £300. All for a few more ccs. I dont think youll find it money well spent when you realise it drives much the same as it did before.
If his GTS is not that quick then there is something wrong with it. I have been in loads of Skylines (GTRs, GTSs, 32s, 33s and 34s) and regardless of the state of tune they fly.
A standard GTS should be getting to 60 in under 6 seconds. He should have it checked out!
BHP (DIN) is not the same as PS. I have explained all this in another thread.
The 172 has 172 BHP (DIN) and therefore it is 172 BHP. End of story!

The thing is some you are all saying, "Yes it has a different ECU." But I dont think many of you would know a new ECU if it hit you in the face!
If the only thing that is different is the throttle response, then the acceleration fueling parameters may be marginally different, but I doubt it...
If I owned a car company and gave someone a warranty with a car and they had fitted an aftermarket part that had broken the engine, its the difference between me paying for a new engine or them.
There is no way Id cover aftermarket part damage, and the exhaust is directly related to the...
Yea as said, if you fit an aftermarket exhaust Renault could refuse to cover any engine work in the warrenty. Suspension will not really be a problem, nor will wheels, but the ekotech valve will upset them I think.
And 7 bhp sounds about right.
I just assumed it did, but when I looked under the bonnet I could not see a master or slave cylinder anywhere, nor does it say anything about clutch fluid in the manual.
I cant believe it has a cable linkage though - its such a primitive design!
It must have a direct linkage of some sort...
To clear up this whole DIN, BHP, PS, KW thing.
172 BHP (DIN) is what Renault quote. DIN is the BHP standard in Germany. Power figures are governed by PS, DIN and SAE to name a few which are all from different countrys (Japan, Germany and America). Each of these are standards to calculate...
Yes - I phoned them and they told me roughly this.
"Any sound system component of the car will not be covered by warrenty. If you damage a component of the car as a direct result of fitting an aftermarket part, it will not be covered by warranty either."
I said, "What if I replace the entire...
Bosch Super 4s will offer a great deal of durabliity, but again - no power gain.
As soon as 1 electrode dies, fouls, breaks etc, the spark will just jump to the next nearest one.
"Sports" plugs are just a performance myth. If you have not modified your car much beyond exhaust, filter, ECU etc. then just stick to the same spec plug as what was already in there.
Iridium plugs are good however. They do not improve fuel consumption, but generate a more reliable spark. This...
No one seems to understand amplifiers here then.
The d means it is a D-class amplifier! These amps are the most efficient available. They are much smaller and use much less power then A, B or A+B amps. Go for the Directed mate - they really are something special.
Hello mate,
The Cup has the same setup as pretty much all the other Clios (not bad for a lightweight edition).
The front speakers are 13cm but are component speakers, so there are some tweeters running off the same channel sitting in the dash. The speakers in the doors are a 2-way design...
Agreed - if Max Power ever said, "Can we feature your car?" I would say, "No - sorry!" Then I would think of a fake excuse, but the real one would be because I wouldnt want it looked in the same light as the majority of crappers in their mag!
Mine has locked up a few times, but its always been the front brakes. The rear brakes are just to balance the car under braking - the bias is not strong enough for them to lock up unless the fronts have on mine.
