How much of a ballache is it to swap over the decat for the old cat converter at MOT time? Ive heard that it takes ages as the bolts are almost impossible to get at.
This is a ps of mine with coloured wheels that I did a while ago. I might actually get round to doing it once Ive got the new suspension on.

With the suspension, if the rear axle is as bad as it sounds then they wont be able to tell hom much its been lowered.
However, you are now finding out why people say always declare you mods. When youve had an accident, the last thing you want to be worrying about is whether the insurers are...

Agree - go with the disklok. Used to be unbeatable in 20 minutes but Im a little concerned about the "new technique" talked about near the top of this thread that only takes 2 minutes!
There was a thread about this a...
Probably the same mate. Doubt they went to the trouble of fitting different speakers to the cup than the full fat 172. The standard speakers have crappy paper cones anyway so theyre worth replacing.
I put some infinity components in mine last weekend and theyre running off the HU at the...
I use a disklok. Its a solid bit of kit. I keep it under the passenger seat when Im driving. They used to be the best you could get but apparently theres a new way of getting around the lock mechanism in about two minutes, but hopefully its enough to put all but the most dedicated people off.
I tried this at the weekend. A real pain in the ass of a job. I gave up in the end as I ran out of time and I realised that if taking it off was bad then putting it back together was probabaly going to be even worse
Im in a similar situation. My premium renewal is due next month, Im looking at about a 10 - 15% increase over last year when I had 1yrs no claims. Now I have none.
Yeah it was a good day. Slightly spoiled by the multitude of MG ZRs that were EVERYWHERE. There were loads of failures as well, must have seen 7 or 8 cars blow up half down a run...
I followed a 172 into santa pod, I think it was black. It had black lexus lights on anyway, I remember that for sure. Also saw a few others there with cliosport stickers, a few in the car park and a green/yellow one on one of the club stands.
As for the cars that were running, the fastest was...
Disaster avoided!
It turns out that one of the few fuses I didnt check had in fact blown. Replaced that and now Im back in business!
Now Im onto removing the top of the dashboard. Whoever wrote the DIY guide on the home page on how to do it is a liar! Ive undone all the screws and after...
Ive been feeding some cables through to the doors on my 172 today. Everything has been fine up to the point where I turn the ignition on. Everything seems to work fine (leccy windows, central locking etc) but the centre console is dead! The stereo wont switch on, the air con unit doesnt do...
Greetings.
I am going to attempt to remove the passenger seat on my 172 this evening. Is it just a case of disconnecting the airbag connection and then unbolting the seat? How many bolts are there holding it in and how do I get to them?
Cheers
Rick
Sounds like the head unit is not getting a continuous positive feed. There are two wires that you need to swap over that go to the block that houses all the power realted wires for the HU. I think one of the wires is red and the other is yellow. You should be able to spot them as they usually...

Lack side airbags might have something to do with it.
Airbags are gay. You should have an option to switch them all off. As soon as the car has a small bump youve got pointless bloody airbags going off all over the place and they...
I cant say Ive noticed any attention from other drivers in my 172:confused:
In fact Im suprised that any 172/182 drivers feel their car stands out so much as its one of the most understated hot hatches out there. Unless you go out of your way to be noticed that is...
I could understand it...
Has anyone made up any adapters to space out the mk2 speaker pods so that they will accept bigger speakers?
If so could you tell me how you did it! Or better still put up some pics.
cheers
Rick
Seems to be a mix of opinions. Its suprising when these sorts of car vs car threads come up just how many people claimed to have raced the car in question. I could count the number of proper races Ive had in the 172 on a lepers hand.
Ive had a go in my bros Cav GSi and its not as quick as...
Has anyone ever had to make a claim with HIC? Ive had bad experiences in the past with small insurance companies that are very cheap...
Also, have any young 172 drivers used HIC? Ive always found admiral to be the cheapest by far for me. (21, 0 ncb)
lol, Im in the same boat mate. Not sure how much yours is worth. Maybe 6k-6.5k private?? The arrival of the 182 seems to have sh*t on the value of the 172s tbh.
You should be able to sell the wheels and suspension separate to raise some cash.
True, Andy. But they take that risk every time they accept a part ex.
I think a bigger car supermarket type place will probably do it as they have more money to play with as it were. A smaller garage that only sells a few cars a day would be less willing I reckon.
