An air/vacuum leak around the inlet will make the hydrocarbons go ballistic, had exactly the same issue with my E30 when it was MOT'd & that was caused by a knackered inlet manifold gasket. Find the air leak by spraying brake cleaner around the inlet manifold area & if the engine revs itself up...

I'd say no to the tippex, I think you'll need to send it off as it is then fill in the replacement. Explain the situation to the guy & show him the V5 to show you're not bulsh*tting & see if he's happy to continue, the V5 doesn't have anything to do with ownership of the car as such, it's...

+1 I learned a huge amount by doing this & now I've got the knowledge, skills-ish :o and confidence to be doing engine conversions by myself. Don't be too harsh on garages & their prices as at the end of they day they need to make money to pay the bills just like the rest of us

Could be a knackered heater matrix, what does the temperature gauge say, is it a bit crap on fuel? Start with checking the coolant is topped up or flush it all out & put new stuff in along with using a hosepipe to flush each pipe out as the ones going into the car could be blocked & stopping...

I'm pretty sure your insurance company will be able to change the cover so that it's protected while it's stored in a garage for not a lot of money ie; not insured to be driven but insured the same way your home contents can be insured

I would SORN, cancel the insurance & rent a garage to keep it in while you're gone, will save you the hassle of selling it plus the hassle of finding another 1 when you're back & the possibility of having to spend the money all over again to either get it to the same standard or fix/maintain...

Nothing random about it, there was supposed to be plenty of mk1's there ;) We got rather a nice selection of engines in those mk1's as well, F4R :dead:, williams on std inlet & 1 with ITB's, spider with ITB's, F7P Turbo, F7P with ITB's :cool:

There's about 3 or 4 people travelling up from Essex so you could join the convoy, we do it in style with BBQ, camping & large quantities of alcohol so it's worth the long trip ;)

You'll need the entire wiring loom, ecu, coolant pipes & engine mounts, possibly the power steering pipes I'd have thought The easiest way to do it would be to have the donor car right next to you when doing the conversion so you can just nick everything off it
