I dont know how the system works, but all i know is all mk2 abs units are standalone and the electric rack pulgs into it somewhere for the varriable assist reading. Im doing it on a valver so alot different and i dont have abs. Fred will know more than I do.
Im doing this at the moment with my valver (removing PAS and using leccy rack), Im taking a reading off the road speed indicator on the speedo cable.
As fred said VVV leccy rack takes a reading from the ABS unit.
mine has the same problem, happens more when the outside temp is cold apparently and the battery voltage drops and it resets or its trip comuter related, try recharging the battery.

Imho, a standard 172 on britans roads is much more fun to drive than a 172 on coilovers. learn to drive the 172 as it is for a while before spending loads of cash on suspension, standard 172's are very balanced cars, i think you have got used to the stiff setup on your 1.2.

im usuing megs edurance gel, but no matter how much i put on, the tyres dont want to go black anymore. Its only reall the fronts, as the backs seem ok. yes it does splash up if you put to much on.
