    The endless battle against Understeer

Ha! :D Maybe different damping rates!? Without driving both or examining both i couldn't tell you i'm afraid. Hopefully someone knows!

The F4R is nothing special. It was never ment to be.

Renault may finally get a taste of fords hot hatch insurance woes!

Gear oil and 2nd/3rd gear crunch questions....

Let me know if this makes a big difference. Put some 'better' oil I had lying around when I had to remove my driveshaft on my 106 and it's doing the same thing. Almost like the oil is preventing the synchro doing it's job. If I slow my gear changes to a snails pace I can usually get it in gear...

    The endless battle against Understeer

182 cup and standard 182 rear shocks have different part numbers. Don't know what the difference actually is.

    The endless battle against Understeer

When i was watching my dad go round in our 182 it was suprising how soft the standard springs seem to be but in practice it works well. The roll helps it c**k that rear wheel along with the way the suspension is setup to aid turn in and the softer springs with properly setup dampers help the...

    The endless battle against Understeer

As i have found on many occasions a talented driver in a standard car is much more of a weapon than an average driver in a modded car. I used to love watching a guy in a 1.4 fiesta with a cheap suspension kit on it upset people in his class. I'm no race driver but my recent run at combe in a...

    New F30 BMW 3-Series M-Sport

Needed something a bit more "business-like" seeing as my FD2 was attracting disapproving stares from clients. It's a shame we live in a world were this is even a consideration. I always liked my old landlords choice of car. Absolutely loaded upto the eyeballs. Endless list of residential...

    Oops not again Aarh!

What the hell do you do to your cars! I hope i never ever own anything thats been driven by you. Cars that I've seen regularly used for motorsport for the last decade by fellow competitors and take home class wins last longer than yours by the sound of it!! I hope you find something that can...

Anyone seen these in the UK?

Glad i drive a 106 diesel. I don't have to care about any of this anymore.

how much to get a clio track ready??

Fair enough! Never been lucky enough to get second hand ones cheap (demand is high!) and as i'm running the 182 i would also have to get 15inch wheels to take advantage of the secondhand ones that do come up and i'd rather spend the money elsewhere. £200 as you've pointed out isn't loads but is...

how much to get a clio track ready??

People are obessed with roll cages. They still aren't a requirement in road going production classes in motorsport and the MSA are obssesed with safety. If your worried about getting hurt i'd worry about fire protection in case you get trapped in the car before anything else. Hence why the MSA...

    Cup vs Motorbike :(

How weird! Glad everyones ok and this seems to be goin the way it should. I just keep looking at it and i know with my wife on the back i would have to be pretty sure i was ok to pull out because you just can't give it some beans to get out of trouble. Very odd behaviour from this particular two...

    stupid design

I must be one of the few happy to leave the engine alone in these. It gets the thing moving quick enough to enjoy the chassis and that's enough for me. Not saying you shouldn't just glad I don't feel the itch for more, More, MORE..... Hahahahaha!

    stupid design

I think it's 60k my dad was getting his done next service and his car was coming up to that last I heard. Don't know if they recommend a shorter interval on here. Even if it's half that it's not like days of old where you need to pop them out occasionally to check alls ok.

    stupid design

The plugs are the platinum type. Service interval is 60k isn't it? It's not a regular job anyway. I thought it was silly too until I saw the service book and then didn't see it as problem anymore.

How much am I looking at for replacement engine (182)?

That's a bit poor really. Hope she is paying for it. I don't know anyone that wouldn't have pulled over and made a quick call to find out if it was serious before carrying on. Although a flashing stop should have been clear enough! If you like the car spend the money. I've spent thousands on...

Help big decrease in MPG after cambelt change

We must have been lucky (Very relieved considering what i read on here) as the renault dealer in Trowbridge did a great job on our cambelt change + associated bits. They have done a few other jobs on the car since as well. Car goes as well as we would ever want and gives great fuel consumption...

How many Liquid yellow 182's are left out there?

I am (Keynsham, Bristol) but the 182 FF i share for track days etc is with my Dad in trowbridge. I sold my XR2, he sold his CRX and Puma and we sold all the spares we had to get a 182 so we could concetrate more on driving after almost a decade of fun modding. He commutes from Trowbridge to...

    Breaking down - lesson learnt

My dad carries a steel wheel with tyre he bought for his IQ that he kept when he sold it on. Fits the 182 and is good enough to get him to a garage. It's better than a crappy space saver anyway! He does only really use the car to commute apart from track days, sprints etc. so keeping it in the...

How many Liquid yellow 182's are left out there?

Was one floating around the longwell green, hanham area of Bristol. Last time i saw it was a few months ago it was up for sale. Looked like it had been lowered. Looked very tidy. Quite a few 172's around my area now.

Chances of getting insured on a sport at 19?

Chances of getting insured on a sport at 19?

Do you need to drive to work? I can cycle and that means I can tick social and pleasure use only and not used at peak times. Knocks 100quid off my insurance even on my 106 diesel and I'm 30 with 7 years no claims and a clean licence, living in an insurance friendly area. Are any of those black...

    Cheap Runner - Daewoo Matiz

Enjoyed having one as my first car. I drove mine very hard with no problems so was suprised to find autocar said that they have stability issues. What the hell were they doing in it!? Notched up 60k in 3 years with me destroying front discs far too often being the only issue. I was doing a lot...

    Being 30 and in a 182

I can't help thinking less of people that surcome to the dull side of driving. I don't feel the need to tell them their car is boring but they always feel inclined to express their irrelevant opinion. Worst is they always seem to know very little beyond the basic facts the salesman told them or...

    Being 30 and in a 182

Don't understand the problem. Although the clio 172, 182 etc is a sport model when you look closer it is a very good everyday car. Everytime I speak to my dad he is more impressed with it. He can't get over the fuel consumption considering how well it goes. He went as far as to say it's the best...

172 not confidence inspiring in the snow

Peugeot 106 diesel on skinny budget tires. No power, torque, rubbish brakes and shopping car suspension setup. Works brilliantly in the snow. The clio is the total opposite and so needs a lot of care to make decent progress on loose or slippery surfaces. Winter tyres do exactly what they say on...

    clio sport head

When i trawled back through the forum looking to answer a similar question the only thing i found was that the port shape varies a little. By how much and which machining is better or worse i don't know. The exhaust side seems to be more of an issue with the PH1 having the better exhaust ports...
