Got an rx100 and its pretty good, not quite the match of my a77 and decent lens but it is better than an entry level dslr and kit lens, its got a stop more dynamic range than a cannon 5dmk3 so that should tell you how advanced the little rx100 is! Bokeh is not its strong point.
Lx7 gets great...
It's nice but for me wider angles don't always benefit shallower depth of field, perhaps as a low light lens or for star photography as f1.8 at 18mm would enable longer shutter speeds without stars blurring.
All of the 1st shot is blurry, could be handheld shutter speed or could be movement, do you use af-c ? Autofocus continuous mode, its difficult shooting kids, when i take pics of my niece a lot come out blurred because she runs!
Toy dog seems ok, orchid shot, something is in focus yes but you...
Careful of your focus points clarkey, it s a nice sharp lens but on the train shot the trains at the back are in focus and not your sons eyes or the trains he is playing with. Pic 2 of the orchids, nothing appears to be in focus. Pic 3 try to always put focus on the eyes, although again nothing...
Both zeiss Harry?
If its for portraits I'd go for 85mm as the fifty is still a fifty on crop albeit with the middle cut out, you don't get the focal compression you think you'll get I.e it doesn't look like a 75mm
Good thing about 24 meg for me is the amount of detail it renders with decent glass in my nightscapes and landscape pictures but I prefer to crop in post but your image does show the flexibility of the mega pixel race!
Niall you have a good memory, it was replaced by the rx100
the a37 has been bought for an upcoming holiday as dont want to lug the a77 around! May sell the a37 afterwards but its got the great 16meg sensor so we will see... I may even remove the plastic mirror and use it as an m/f astro...
I'm buying and selling a lot of kit at the moment, if you buy carefully losses if any are minimal, profit isn't unheard of! It's great because you get to try loads of stuff and find out what's best for you!
Agree with ukaskew. I have changed every body and lens I own since jan this year and considered full frame but instead bought some really nice 'dx' glass!
The tamron 17-50 on my sony body used the internal motor and it was good! Micro motors won't be as good.
I now have the tamron 70-200 2.8.
The 70-300 is wide open at f5.6 at 200mm and does benefit from stoping down to f8 for max sharpness. Compare a £2000 lens and a kit lens at f8 and there's...
I've had both the 17-50 and the 70-300 usd.
17-50 was great although since reaced with the Carl zeiss 16-80 which is noticeably sharper from 24mm onwards.
70-300 no complaints at all, stand it next to the nikkor and you could b forgiven for thinking they are the same lens with different...
I have just bought a Sony a77, upgraded from my a65. I would agree the 7100 is overall a better camera but a fixed LCD doesn't suit my shooting style, oddly a real deal breaker for me. I didn't get the excellent 16-50 as I have the Carl zeiss 16-80 which offers better range, slightly better...
I would say no, its just a camera phone with a zoom that can't make calls.
Its likely you'd end up carrying two smart phones (duplicating maps, email etc) but one with a 'zoom' and one with a 'prime' both giving quality second only to a heavily cropped out of focus cheap compact camera :o
I would say its not just the number of points but the speed and accuracy of the af system, canons full frame 6D only has one* af point but its a very accurate f2.8 one. * not many more anyway!
I don't think the new small slr with pancake will make a good combo because firstly there are already...
Wouldn't you need a macro lens? An old 35mm slide is the same size as a fullframe dslr sensor so you would need 1:1 macro on a full frame or less on a crop?
