Its hard to put in word, but it does look like they are bump stops. The go on the silver sliding shaft that goes up and down, the rest at the bottom and are there if the suspension bottoms out.

You only need to worry about changing it if its a 172mk1. As they have the filter under the car.

If you follow the standard setup round in your head the answer is yes.

They are a right b**ch to get out of Clio Hubs, the fact they rust quite badly doesnt help, best to take your hubs off and find someone that has a 10ton press.

On the 172s they wind back in by lodging a screwdriver in the slots and winding it back in turning clockwise.

Officially it was june 2001 on a Y plate but there are a few 02 plate 172 exclusives that were registered in 2002.

Its just there to cushion the spring on the axle. It also helps to keep the spring there and not fall out.

IIRC Giles tried it on his 1.6 and although the 172 axle is a straight swap, the abs wouldnt work because the disked cars have a different number of teeth on the abs rotor. Its way too much effort for little reward.

They are Renault ones from Renault, iirc they were £20 for a pair. The ones on that site look like replicas.

No they wont fit, the centre bore on VWs is a lot smaller than Renaults. You could fit renault wheels on vws but not other way round.

Cant beleive it would just come off like that, what aftermarket wheels were they, did they fit properly? either way then you'll need a new hub.

I cant see how that came off, its part of the hub. Heres a pic of my hub. Are you sure it wasnt a spigot ring or even a spacer??
