When you checked it when it went down was the engine running or was really warm? As mine goes down a little when it hot but goes up slightly when cooled down.
Check if the driveshaft gaitors are firmly on and that they are not leaking grease, if the metal clip has come off one, it can cause funny noises when steering as it catches on the rotating shaft.
Might be worth asking Giles as he had a box full of badges, to get the parts number I need your car code number and fabrication code.

This is my old Clio, I did the mirrors and fog light covers myself with Halfords primers, spray and laquer, I would only do small parts yourself, get a bodyshop to do larger parts. At least you can take them off and not have your car off road.
Its easy get a fork from the kitchen or a flat bladed screw driver and using the opposite end slide it through the top hole where the key ring goes, then bend it down pushing the front half up and the back half down, it will then slide apart.
