Where in gloucestershire, i'm on the warks, glos border and will help you out.
All you'll need are spring compressors, i got my swan neck spanner special order from a local sop, some that are seized require a buzz gun on them tho
Stainless does rust, just no where near as much as mild steel, how much it rusts depends on the grade.
The tip may well no be stainless, might be chromed mild steel for example
depends if you have mechanical or electronic speedo drive, if electronic then the 182 will fit, if not then you can only use a 172 one with mechanical drive.
Dunno about the 197
ALWAYS use the dipstick for oil, even on new cars gauges are often out, make sure its on a level surface too.
I'd use 5W40, its what they recommend for the valvers/williams
For the gauge there are a number of optiiosn, if it dont' move at all then check the connectiions to sensor/gauge, dont'...
Wouldn't use a xW30
At this time oif year i'd stick with a 5W40 fully synth, 10W40 and 15W40 will give high oil pressures at start up, esp when its the likes of -2 deg c.
Mobil one is, or always was renound for being shite at higher temps, ran it once in my mk1, make it sound like a tractor so...
How much are we talking here, couple of inches down the expansion tank every journey or half an inch over a few days?
If its a small amount check the cap of the expansion tank.
If its alot stand the car over some cardboard or something so you can see where its dripping from
Will be the solenoid jammed, happened to a mate's car, ended up sorting it with a screw driver levering the solenoid.
Should be able to pull the door card away enough to gain access but will be difficult to completely remove it with the door shut
I had a similar problem, although it wasn't just 1st and 2nd, the crank shaft oil seal behind the clutch was leaking slightly, whihc ment that during long periods with no clutch use, ie coming off motorways the plate ont eh pressure plate woudl get coated in a fine mist of oil, and wouldn't stop...
Chances are it will ahve been removed due to the usual play in it, its an absoloute c**t to get to the bolts witht eh boot in, so thats probabily the reason for it being removed, thats why i removed mine, then reaslised it kept the water out
I'd remove steering column to put it in, there are two, one that goes inside and one outside, i've only got the external one on mine, didn't have any but i found when you go through puddles you get an inch of water sloshing around in the footwell if you dont' ahve the rubber there
Shoudl be fine, chances are if dirt has got in there they'll just be play int he steering, ususally just wears the track rofds, to swap the rubber is about a 5 min job, just undo track rod end and from hub and shoudl be able to, with a bit of persuasion get it over the track rod end
