Yer rear pads were stuck to the discs. The grinding noise is the pads rubbing off the rust from the discs. Drive it around a bit with lots of braking and it will be ok. It happens when the car is left outside for a while.
The filter is a gauze cover over the pick up hole where the petrol goes into the bottom off the pump. You can take the pump out easily from under the rear seat squab, it is held in by a large threaded plastic collar. The gauze filter can be removed and cleaned. The big problem is when...
The Prolines will lower the car just a few mils. are much better over bumps, help body roll a little. You will also need a Rear ARB to control body roll further. You only need washers when changing to a certain set of new top mounts.

You dont need to undo the top mount unless you are fixing something else, if you do remove it support the engine with a trolley jack, it will only drop down about 4 inches until it rests on the subframe.
