D-Cup 1.5 secs quicker to 100 than a 172?....that may be on paper. but in the real world....the urban warrior cup doesnt seem to be so fast, raced quite a few and really it is down to driver....yes a well driven 172 can beat a 172 cup...and I have done so quite on occasions...
i wonder why so...
Hi
I had a green replacement filter element in my Mk 2 172....i think it blunted the performance by a couple of BHP and now i have the paper one back in and it felt quicker...
I tried the new green filter for two months...do you want to buy my old one as the paper one seems to rock?
Surely the aluminium tax disc holder will add extra weight and thus slowing cars down....i really think Cup drivers should consider this before purchasing...lol:D
Hrumph
Tonight driving my MKII 172...there was a bang under the bonnet, the smell of what i guess to be steering fluid and zero power steering.
Got the car home, now have the arms of Geoff Capes and a phone call to make with Renault tomorrow morning.
Has this happened to anyone else on...
but cups, 172s, 182s have performance, as do Civic Type Rs...to get into the early 6 second terrirtory requires something in the £20k+ bracket which is disappointing.
I know some cup drivers think they are urban warriors behind the wheel of the stripped cup, 172 drivers are content with having the extra comfort and luxury at the expense of .2 of a second...If cup drivers are so content, why do they spend so much time modding them to go faster?...is there self...
I have had 144mph out of a 172 on the flat (Private land) and that was the absolute maximum because it hit the rev limiter in 5th....Also done 147mph down hill...Dont think 150mph is possible....most likely wishful thinking
Hi I have a green filter in my 172 and truthfully there is no difference in performance to the normal paper element..i have researched this with both the paper filter and the performance filter using ron 95, sul and optimax fuel and in my car i am sure the car struggles to go past 130mph with...
today i did a 600 mile journey so i had plenty of time on dual carriageways and motorways to test performance when warmed thru fully and i am sure there was no carbon left on the valves...the car is a 172 with 15000s on the clock....I think the enclosed induction kits and re-fuelling with new...
Oops sorry to burst the bubble on green elements...i have been running one for about 6 weeks now...tonight it was great when outside temperature was about 12oc.it sounds like a better noise...
Now for the power increase...none is noticable even with optimax, bp sul, esso sul, fina sul and...
I run a 172 as a company car and it is superb for long distances...you should really have all of the gadgets and home comforts and I have raced Cups (unmodified) and nothing in it at all...a cup is certainly not worth the comfort hardships for a paper specified .3 quicker to 60.
It will need as an automatic replacement:
1. New battery.
2. 5 new tyres as they perrish with time.
3. Oil change and service
components age with time as well as mileage....i.e low mileage car can be more troublesome than high mileage motorway used cards
JPMad
you have done everything right with your tyre pressures and taking it back to the main dealer....
what i would do which alot of civic type R owners do is take the car to a proper suspension setup centre with a laser rig and have them look at suspension, toe in, camber etc...this may...
Green elements make the car breath so much better, it may not achieve more power but i think it helps it closer to the alledged 172 figure..
But on the 172 Mk2 the paper elelment took out took double the space in the air box...and it looked cheap and nasty
Mine idles badly especially when cold, maybe it will run better with the green element and octane booster stuff as well...will try it at the weekend...I know doing ecu resets on scoobies makes a difference
Alledgely as stated on this forum to put the ECU in learning mode you disconnect the battery for one hour and that should do the trick....havent tried it yet...not sure how i would tell if things were better but maybe its worth a try.
When you reset the ECU apparently it relearns air intake and fuel etc as if it was for the first time....maybe it gives the car more oomphhh...i dont know.
If the green filter and octane boost stuff is giving more power then i cannot really tell...hopefully i will find a clio cup to race...
Hi On Monday night I put octane booster & Optimax in my Mk II 172....tonight I fitted the green cotton performance air panel in......Tomorrow night I may reset the ECU into learning mode.
Not sure if it have more power....but it does feel less laboured and smoother...i will continue to run the...
Hi
you will be safe if your lane was the third lane or fourth lane over from the camera...if you were on a normal a - road...and on your side you had painted white lines on the road then you may get a fine...
I have had 144mph in my MK II 172 on the flat on a private road with a passenger on the rev limiter and 147mph downhill.
done 144mph twice...but only when using optimax...tried on normal 95 ron petrol and performance struggled to get past 130mph....but like me make sure it is on private roads !!
Hello I have never raced a Mk1 172 are they quicker than Mk2 172s?
I know with a full tank of petrol they are 20 kgs lighter than the Mk2 172 and they also get peak power at 6250RPM instead of 6750rpm in Mk2.
I have never raced a Mk1...have raced Mk2 Cups beat some, drawn some and lost...
