Many thanks for the help and advice - some rain delays and a dislocated finger doing a handstand with the kids (dont ask) didnt help but the new clutch is in and working fine. Cleaned plate and clutch with acetone and two drops of superglue and it went together fine. Old clutch had lots of...
All shafts out, subframe lowered and plenty of clearance. All lower and upper gearbox bolts out, three starter bolts out, gearbox mounts disconnected. Used a gentle pressure on gearbox to seperate from engine and something is holding the engine and box - is it the 'torx' bolt/nut in picture -...
Subframe bolts all loose but for the life of me I cant get the ABS sensor nearside to move at all - and is there a crack on the plastic pcasing, darn....
Is there a union nearby - if not I might leave it in and leave hub and drive shaft rear of gearbox.
Drained and...
subframe cover bolts all removed but two front that bolt to subframe either side same position very tight so Ill leave them as the frame will drop with the the pressing attached. Two 18mm bolts subframe rear came out easy, nearside 16mm front OK but offside locks hard even...
Valance off, airbox out, all gearbox attaching parts free, battery tray out, nearside steering arm off, calipers off, bottom balljoint loose, sub frame bolts soaked in plus gas and I was thinking.....
Why cant I leave offside suspension where it is - release the gator bolts at the gearbox...
Release bearing is singing like a castrated cat - can that be got at as well?
So I drop subframe but leave on bolts support engine on a trolley, and off we go?
Looking for a challenge....
Is there a guide or advice on changing a clutch on a 2001 172 sport - I want to do it in the car as indications are its OK. Im an ex Evinrude fitter so love fiddling in tight spaces. Did the Cam and head in the road and the neighbours' are missing the excitement!!
thanks - dont have a diagnostic machine and the symptons just feel like ignition however;
Removed intake and ignition leads, No1 spark plug end was wet and had a jelly like substance that you get on marine outboards used in the sea on lead and in the hole. Plug hole was wet and 1/4 inch of...
Mk2 Clio 172, started missing at low speeds few weeks back. Cleaned coil and leads (did not remove intake) and OK for a morning. Sometimes gets very bad and have to change down and get the revs up or it looks like it will shake itself apart! Strangely it can be OK first thing at low temps 2...
Fred Ive used Rossini in the past and been happy - mot coming up and want better than OEM! so are Brembo HC better and what about the grooved 'Max' Brembo's?
sorry to jump this thread.
Re: Clio 172 door lock - FIXED WITH A GOOD CLEAN
Removed door card, undid 3 screws and the door handle connector. Rotated lock to remove from door . Removed white cover from 'motor' (th bit thats does the clunk clunk!) Cleaned with washing up liquid and hot water. Exercised mechanism and...
Door shuts and locks on key fob, opens from inside OK. Door latch doesn't work when activated from outside. ie lift door handle nothing happens.
Key fob lock sounds crisp on locking but a bit muffled when opening so Im thinking the mechanism is a bit tired.
Is this a take door apart job or WD40?
thanks to AA solution found - so I thought I would post.
Salt on road as got into the relays and board located in front of battery on the near side of car under the cover. All relays where removed and were awash with green copper oxide from corrosion which also was present n the relay board...
Good advice on consumer rights but take care if the dealer offers to look at it for you. Your claim will be through the small claims court which does not have a judge as such and is much more informal. Your write up what happened and the dealer have the opportunity to reply which you will get...
Car turns over OK but wont fire - Recently changed battery. Oil warning on dash showing ----- which is flashing. Checked oil - bit low - so added a little oil - now shows oil OK but still wont start?
Went to car after work and battery totally dead - no lights in car no red flashing imobiliser light very strange but not the first time. Will check it out tomorrow.
Has the winter affected anyone else?
When my belt jumped a crank pulley tooth the noise was more mettalc with the valves being flattened by the pistons. I recon that was 18 degrees missaligned.
You tube clip sounds more tapperty but if the timing has slipped a little whats to stop it going further?
Ta for advice - the blanking plug is mid way up on the left side looking forward between the inlet / outlet connectons - I guess its for a control on other Clio models?
Going to use the Blue.
I replaced mine with a pattern radiator similar to the one in your link for a 172. Didnt use the blanking plug and the fitting at the top is wrong ie the OEM rad had a cutaway for the rubber mounts to locate the radiator. I located the top mounts with Gripfil.
I looked at mine today as I...
Pattern radiator which has blanking plug. Last week leaked the water away and now when I found the fault I discovered that it is hand tight.
Plan to use Hylomar universal Blue or Hylotyte Red on threads and rubber washer. Run to temp and then retorque.
Is that a good idea?

Since I coughed up over a £100 for a genuine window mechanism some 4 years ago it failed. Having had a review of forums I decided to repair it and I also now understand what made it fail in the first place.
The mechanism has a motor, gearbox, spool for the wires, tensioners, two cables a metal...
it can be removed search the forums>
Try to reset using red button under the bonnet, then try to disconnect the battery for 30 mins, then from inside car lock and hold the interior locking mechanism for over 10 ses until it inlocks itself.
Along the way these things fixed my car......
I have had bits of wheel arch trim drop, one pece is currently held up by tie wraps. New ones are £75 for the bigger pieces. In general they are held together with nylon fixings that lock into metal brackets on the car structure.
As they are plastic they can put a groove in the tyre. Run...
Dirty TDC sensor - you can clean it - AA did mine.
In the boot is a tow hook it fits in the front behind a movable panel, get a mate with a car and a rope t hook it up take your car for a drive and then call out the AA.
They can do it at the roadside
