I was there in my Clio rally car . The Noble was well off the pace , but he still made it reasonably difficult for me to pass .
Must admit I really liked a couple of the E30 M3s .
Millers competition CFS 10w/60 is what Ive used for the past few years . Needs changing fairly frequently , but that doesnt concern me .
Mr Bognor , what makes you think that Mobil1 15/50 is the best oil by far ?
Knackered shocks wont affect the ride height . Its much more likely tired springs and torsion bars . Many so-called lowered-uprated springs simply arent well enough made and sag very quickly , although you should always expect a short settling period for new springs .
As Raiderman says , go to Rally Design and just get standard group"n" vented discs . Grooved and/or drilled are generally crap and not recommended for fast driving especially if you take it on track .
Spent fortunes experimenting with discs , pads etc and found the group"n" discs far better...
I dont even think that the grade of steel pipe they use for cages is available to general public . I dont know wether its right or wrong , but I was informed by a fabricator that only registered roll-cage makers were allowed to by the piping .
Correct me if Im wrong though .
Might have a look at that myself . Hopefully have all the suspension sorted by then and its only mailto:3@ 4hr">3/4hr down the road from me . Wont book it yet though , until I get back from hols and make sure I have got everything . Just waiting on the springs now .
Give me a good chance to...
I love trackdays in the wet . The Williams is really at home in crap conditions and unlike some other cars you hardly need to slow down at all .
Where in Wales Mike , is it Pembrey ? If so , its an awesome circuit for a hot hatch with fast flowing corners and lots of opportunities for...
Yeh , to be honest I only used the Dellortos as I had them in the workshop from a modified mk2 Cortina 1600e . It only cost me the price of a 2nd hand manifold and some jets , so it was worth doing and cost peanuts .
It wasnt absolutely perfect , but was vastly better than the standard...
I would say it depends on the car . My modified 205 gti was converted to carbs as the crappy standard injection/management system couldnt handle the uprated cam .
The Clios is much more sophisticated than that and carbs would probably be a backward step . They may ultimately gain a few bhp at...
My old Willy 3 pulled a genuine (using gps) 142mph bouncing off the limiter in 5th . Revcounter reading @7500rpm and the speedo was just a dash under 150mph . Standard , apart from Hillpower stage1 mods and decat.
Yeh , the ones in DT are the loadsa holes ones . I have been speaking to the fabricator who is making up my fueltank and sump gaurds and hes quite confident he can make me up a set , so I will probably go down this route .
I have just seen one of the exhausts he made up for a Skyline and it...
Not sure entirely . I have had to send off a sample spring to this company , so they cen get the height etc from it . Avo did originally make some up for me to standard height and uprated about 25% from standard which is fine for road use , but not stiff enough for competition .
I would...
Thanks for that guys . Good idea with the Jap stuff . Ive got some good contacts in Japan , who may be able to help out with parts . I have measured the top of the strut now , which will make the research a bit easier . I also noticed that Demon Tweeks have a universal top mount so will...
After our communications the other day , I thought I would ask around . Apparently no-else has seen them before either . I am still making enquiries abroad as although the Williams or 16v havent been used much for competition over here , they are still used quite a bit in Europe for rallying...
Greenstuff are great if you NEVER have to use your brakes . If you do stand on the middle pedal occasionally then dont bother . THE WORST pads i have ever used .
I would suppose it depends on how you like your car to handle . For outright speed , about 2psi higher all round works well on the Willy . Though I tend to run 35psi on the front and 24psi on the rear (cold temps) . The rears tend to overheat well before the fronts making for a lovely 4 wheel...
I have used the Rally Design discs for about 2 years now and they are easily the strongest available and amazingly the cheapest . I tried both varities of the Tarox , and both were equally as crap as the other . Neither could last a full day on track .
I also tried just about every make of...
You can adjust the one thats already on the car . Granted you cant do it from inside the cockpit , but its rare you need to constantly change the effort going to the rear wheels .
I wound up the rear effort to 50% above standard from 80kgs to 120kgs . If your friendly with a local mot place...
Thats what I was going to get but the delivery time was 3-4 weeks . As the car failed its mot on the exhaust , I couldnt really wait . Ended up getting a Magnex which not only sounds better than the old Devil system , but was really easy to fit with no knocking anywhere . Didnt like the near...
I recommend the rally design group "n" discs . they are not drilled or grooved , but are much stronger than the tarox discs and only cost about £30 a set .
I have tried loads of discs in the past and to be honest the tarox were too weak and warped or cracked after 1 days track use . The Rally...
Unless you intend taking it on track regularly then go for a standard type set-up . Go too stiff or too low and you lose all the main advantages of the chassis , the adjustability , traction etc.
I have adjustable Avo dampers all round and custom made Avo springs for the front which still run...
8k on a clutch is definitely not normal wear and tear . Even a car that spends a considerable time on the track being abused should get more than 40k from an oe renault clutch .
My old Williams clutch lasted until 80k miles and it got driven very hard on the road and even harder on 20+ track...
Know what you mean . I actually had a garage fit me a patent clutch , even though I expressly told them to fit a genuine article only. Result = 6000 miles on the next clutch before it broke whilst the original renault unit had lasted 80k miles and done loads of track days .
Stear WELL CLEAR of...
