oil and clutch

Car back to dealers today due to mayonaise found on filler cap for the oil.

Was told this was a characteristic of the new type of engine and was perfectly normal and nothing to worry about.

After a test drive however the mechanic did condemn my clutch , on a car less than a year old and having done less than 8000miles.

Renault uk said if it was wear and tear it wouldnt be covered by warranty.

Anybody else heard about the oil issue and anybody had any premature clutch failures?

The mayonaise bit has happened to loads of 1.2 Clios seems not to be a problem just an engine charecteristic (possibly a way of buying cheap private one?)

Unlike the 172 the other Clios seem to have clutches which are upto the job but the seals have gone on a few of them (not the 1.2 but smaler engined ones) in the past which is covered underwarently.

I very much dought that its not a warently job unless you flat shift and slip the clutch or drive it particulaly hard

8k on a clutch is definitely not normal wear and tear . Even a car that spends a considerable time on the track being abused should get more than 40k from an oe renault clutch .

My old Williams clutch lasted until 80k miles and it got driven very hard on the road and even harder on 20+ track days .

Having said that if a clutch pedal is ridden all the time and constantly slipping then it may not be covered on warranty . My mother-in-law destroys clutches quite frequently by slipping it all the time.
