Want a better ride from my Cup packed 182 with Prolines

I got the car fitted with Proline Springs and solid top mounts a few years ago. I used to love it, especially on the right roads. These days, driving a lot more on the motorway I am starting to curse the ride. It feels hard and jittery and gets tiring on a 200 mile journey. I like the slightly...

    Insurance up 20% this year!

This story in the Telegraph (posted on Pistonheads) shows another side to the situation, and is quite amazing - Motor insurance premiums up by 34pc. Car insurance policies have jumped by an average of £215 in a year fuelled by soaring levels of fraud and dubious whiplash claims, new figures...

    Insurance up 20% this year!

I'm guessing that premiums are increasing on our cars more than others for a simple reason (which might not want to be heard on here) - The 172 and 182 have become cheap enough to buy for very young drivers. It seems these drivers are prepared to pay £££'s to get behind the wheel of the cars...

Sorry, it's 20% off your renewal quote from your current insurer....

    Insurance up 20% this year!

By the way, for those of you who do have to pay a real whack, it may be worth you looking into doing a Ride Drive days training. With a full days training (presuming you can meet a certain standard) then you are eligible for a 20% discount with Adrian Flux. Cost is around £250...

    Insurance up 20% this year!

If you don't declare your mods, it is only slightly less stupid than having no insurance at all. It invalidates your insurance, and means you won't be able to make any successful claims. In fairness, having mods limits your choice of insurance but it is the only way.

    Insurance up 20% this year!

Yes mate, but it is all relative. I am 35, and a 20% rise is just rude. I've never had to pay that much to insure a car, at any age. I can't believe that people are prepared to pay much more to drive around in a Clio tbh. It's a fun car but, seriously? I phoned up Admiral, told them about the...

    Insurance up 20% this year!

Just got my renewal quote through from Admiral. Last year, my premium was £495, this year, they want £600. How can it be that my age, and NCB is going up and not reducing my premium? not exactly rewarding staying with them are they. Crazy, quick look on Moneysupermarket got me a quote of £423...

big pothole + Narrow Coutry lane + No street light buckled allot :(

How quick were you going? Presumably, if the road was too narrow for 2 vehicles, and you were near a corner, you were going pretty slow when you hit to steer off the road? Thing is, your allow should not have buckled if you were doing about 20mph?!

    What to pay for Superleggeras

Been after a set of 16" Superleggeras for a while now. Since they have been replaced by Ultras they are pretty hard to come by it seems. Some on eBay now, £250 but would need a refurb. Do you reckon that is what I'll have to pay or is it worth waiting longer? Cheers

    Why change?

Glad I'm not alone! Megane R26 would tempt me away but no way it will happen based on the price difference. I'm not exactly afraid of older cars either, I have 2 others, one 1962, the other 1972, so my 182 will always seem new! Trophy dampers it is....now, just have to wait to find some!

    Brake poll

If you want the best brake set up, my advice is shell out for Pagid Blue pads. I have fitted them to 3 of my cars now, they are the best pad I have ever used.

    Why change?

I've had my 182 for a few years now. I cover low mileage and the car has only done 26,000. Whenever I drive it I enjoy it. Because I'm a petrolhead, I often think about what I will change it for, even though I don't need to. Thing is, without shelling out a lot more money, I can't find a...

    Fibre Glass Panels

Personally, on weight saving grounds I would say you're going to lose more kgs per £ by swapping the glass. Replace side and rear windows with Lexan Polycarbonate. You don't have additional cost of painting as you would replacing panels either, and it is safer than glass for track days too. That...

    Tip for weight saving material

I thought some of you may be interested in some material that I have used on another car for making up interior panels. It is a flat material, good for creating a false floor or one dimensional door cards. Much much lighter than MDF but still rigid. It is corrugated plastic, often goes under...

    Arctic 182 from Germany

Great car! A real credit to you. I was wondering if you could share any info on the seat fitment. The Pole Positions look lovely. What subframe do you use?

How do I sort my lean?

refit your original springs? you will find that the standard set up is quite adequate for you on track unless you are driving on the absolute edge

    Improving mpg

I agree but what else would you suggest? they guy is asking how to improve MPG. The fun of a 197, or a 1*2 is on the right roads, in the right conditions, agreed. Until then, driving around town, on the motorway etc, I just drive it as I would any other car, economically, not pointlessly up and...

    Improving mpg

Until you look into remaps etc. just experiment with changing your driving style. Biggest enemy to MPG is wieght and changing speeds constantly, accelerating and wasting energy by braking. There are probably loads of sites with advice on this sort of thing these days, just google it. Check your...

    went on the rollers saturday...

Why be dissappointed? Presumably the car was no slower leaving the session than it was beforehand? Judge the cars performance on an actual road, not the rollers. Take the car along a twisty road and you will probably not wish for more bhp. Always baffles me why people are concerned by RR...

    Clio with a baby?

Okay steady on, I'm sure it is the priority for every parent but we don't need to turn this Forum into a baby one do we, plenty of those for objective advice.

    Clio with a baby?

OMG!! I was joking, no idea you could get them! Wicked. You can even get them in Grey & pepper that would match the interior and the Inferno piant. Oops, already getting carried away.....

    Clio with a baby?

Cool!! Thanks guys, you've put my mind at rest. We'll keep the car and only consider changing if we really find we need to. Hopefully we can make do, we don't even use the car for shopping very often as we are in London and everything is very near. I always got the impression that people...
