The main thing I would say is don't necessarily go there expecting to buy it. I've been to see countless 16v's in the past but have passed on most of them because if you get a bad one they can be a money pit, however if you get a good one they can be very reliable.
Timing belt is 72k or every 5 years but should really be done before that. As edde says check for rust on arches sills etc the usual tbh. Other common problems are things like play in the steering column (£30 fix) and leaky sunroof. Tbh there is a lot more to look for if you want to go into...
Tbh I personally would only recommend them to people if you are capable of doing the work to it yourself as otherwise you could spend loads in labour costs, thogh that might be a bit late as you've already bought one, lol.
However, having said that if you get a good one they can be very...
Tbh 50,000 miles isn't much on a modern engine imo as long as it has been reasonably looked after. I know of at least one 1.4 engine from a MK1 Clio (E7J) that was still going strong over 200k miles till someone broke the car for bits.
Although x-172 was saying that a valver revs higher, which is true, you can buy a chip for a williams for £30 which will raise the limiter to that of a valver and it can safely run at that. Also, its only early williams that don't have a sunroof, the williams 3 and some williams 2's came with a...
Williams is the better car to drive, more power and better handling. The next best option would be a Hybrid like I've got which is a williams engine in a valver shell. Hybrids sometimes have a widetrack fitted which is basically just the suspension off a williams but some just keep the same...
A sleeper is basically a car that looks as though it should be pretty slow but is actually quite a quick car, or at least quicker than you would expect.
Really you should declare it, some don't but imo its just stupid not to as you are taking a massive risk and could get fucked for it if you...
You carn re-use a lot of bits tbh and its very straightforward, but there will also be bits you should really replace even though they might not be necessary. The gearbox and driveshaft off the 1.4 can be used with the RSi engine. Tbh I would say that if you are doing the conversion anyway you...
I went down south to pick up the hybrid, would have been about a 500 mile round trip but I took the train down. Not uncommon at all, even for what you might think of as an old shitter tbh, but from what you said about the guy arranging shipping and having an address in sweden I would steer well...
How much are you paying now then?
Almost £5k is not worth it in the slightest. I wanted a fast car asap after passing my test and got a valver at 18 then a hybrid at 19 but have never paid more than £800 on insurance so to pay £5k is just crazy for a car like that. I'm not going to join a...
Strut brace I can't help on fitting tbh but be aware that there is a chance you will get a couple of slight dimples on the roof next to the sunroof if its fitted. I've been told it doesn't always happen but every clio I've been to see with one fitted has always had the dimples. Its nothing...
Yeah thats why I mentioned the issue with the box off a Ph3 as I had seen cliokiz mention the problem before. Do you know what engine he took that box from?
I have seen quite a few people succesfully fit a JB1 gearbox to a valver before though. All in all I reckon spener might be right though...
Yup any Mk1 box will fit. If you use a box off a lower spec there will be a slight gap between the box and the sump but it is nothing to worry about and still works 100% as it should. Really if you can you are best getting a Williams gearbox as they are a bit stronger but other than that...
Putting in a valver or williams engine would be the best option tbh.
However, if you want to stick to the 1.4 try doing a search for some of my old posts as they should give you all the info you need about tuning a 1.4 as I was looking into it at one point. You can get upwards of 100bhp out of...
Just found this after doing a quick search. I was up at knockhill today at a trackday (just watching) and this car was on and it was unbelieveably quick. There was a Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera on the track as well and the focus was a fair bit quicker than it in the straights and...
Got to admit I was a bit surprised at how close it was. Going by that video the hybrid won't be that far off a V6 in terms of pace . Always thought they were quicker than that tbh.
Are you 100% sure about that?
I've just been doing a search and seen a lot of posts in which people have said they are the same across all Mk1 and Mk2 clios? If anyone know 100% for sure could you please let me know.
Cheers.
Yeah thats what I had thought tbh and someone on another forum has confirmed that the R5 item is the same as the Mk1 clio. I think the Mk2 clio item is very similar but it seems that the bottom part of the gear linkage is a bit different.
lol, I was just about to reply and say your probably as well taking the engine out. Other option would have been to lower the subframe and remove it through the passenger wheel arch. Just don't take it out through the top as I did in the past and it was a right pain in the arse, lol.
Does anyone know if the short shifters for a Mk1 Clio would fit a Mk2 and vice versa?
Its just to see if they are all the same. If possible pics of a Mk2 short shifter before its been fitted would be great as I already have some of a Mk1 to compare to.
Cheers.
Looks like a really clean example in those photos. Not a fan of them personally, but a mate of mine has just broken his one for parts as it was rusting pretty badly so if you are after any parts let me know and I can ask him.
Can't believe they quoted you so much. I got a quote the other day from Adrian Flux on a turbo valver for when I'm 21, 2 years NCB fully declared running 240bhp and it was only £800 fully comp.
I've been trying to set up my laptop and PC so that its possible to share files between them and so that I print wirelessly from my laptop. Anyway I set up a workgroup but when I look at the computers on the workgroup from the PC it shows both the PC and laptop and I can access the laptop files...
Its ok, realised what I was doing wrong and got it sorted. In the installation I just deleted the partition that was already there, then put in a new one and formatted it.
Cheers anyway though.
At the moment I've been trying to wipe my old PC of all the crap thats on it and install Windows XP again. I went through the XP installation thinking it would do this but it has just put another version of XP on it along with my previous version (have two choices when switched on) and has also...
btw, did anyone get a video of my hybrid (the white Mk1) on the rollers by any chance? My mate thought he had one on his camera but for some reason it only has the car on the rollers when he is calibrating everything and none of the power run.
