Says it all that I've only just dropped into depreciation after over a year and 14K. People don't pay good money for second hand cars without good reason. I'd tested other 172/182's before, but the seats make all the difference, especially in conjunction with the lighter wheels and slightly...
Similar thoughts to those I posted some months ago. No likelihood of a Trophy trade, no matter how much they beg.
OK, I'd do a straight swap if they threw in a yellow VX220 with delivery mileage.
I was driving a colleague to one of the Manchester offices this week and we went over the snake pass. She asked what the difference between understeer and oversteer was, so I showed her some LOO and had her grabbing the Jesus handles :)
Easy to tighten line with a bit of lift...
Pretty much everyone is saying the same thing. Guess Renault are pitching at new RS owners rather than hoping people will "upgrade". If my Trophy got written off and I couldn't get another one, I'd be looking at the Meggy or ST, not the 197.
Get the Trophy, end of.
The seats make a huge difference for a start, but the wheels and suspension really do make a big difference to handling when you start getting silly. Throwing out all the heavy stuff also means it's a bit nippier. There is air con, just not climate control, no Xenons...
I would have seriously considered a Meggy Trophy, but they were snapped up too quickly. The F1 graphics do worry me, as does the feel of the steering, but it's a minty car for the money, no doubt.
I commented on the quality of the brakes in my wee review. With std pads and discs the fade factor will be a factor on track for 182. But how many bods who track regularly have std brakes?
Don't see why this is so unlikely. I got offered £12K trade in for mine against a 197. I laughed in their faces of course. Starting to get nicely run in after 10K or so.
I'm still really not keen on the steering.
You've seen my in depth review, much the same as here, but I think that when you factor in residuals, it's priced a lot closer to the Golf than first appears. For the included kit, I'd have liked £1K less on the release price, to distinguish it from...
If you drive like a dick in the winter in a cup, you'll die. The ABS and ESP keep you alive a fraction longer.
In honesty, I wouldn't get one unless you are an experienced driver. I mean at least 50,000 miles with a few winters thrown in.
I tested the theory out re some insurers refusing...
