Test drive your list, but you need to drive a hard bargain on the 197. The Meggy, VXR and ST are only a couple of quid more. I personally will not be trading "up".
Grouse and Pheasants in my neck of the woods ususally. Little buggers are prone to scratch your paintwork and crack your numberplate if you're meaning it.
The 197 is a sporty car, more comfortable and refined than the mk II's, but the comfort and safety gain comes at a price, you lose some (not all) of the mk II fun. It moves even further away from hot hatches of old and blurs class lines. Good or bad, you choose: There are plenty of 182's to buy...
New swift sport puts out 125 hp and is a "warm" rather than hot hatch like the C2, but is cheap to buy and insure. What respectable teeneager is going to buy a swift, even if it does have a 1.6 engine though? :)
The old 1.3 GTI weighed nothing and was good for about a 7.5 0-60 before you went...
The 182 cup is that little bit nippier than the cup packed full fat. I drove them quite closely together and the difference was noticable. The suspension is pretty much the same, but the bit of weight trimmed does make a difference. If you're looking at buying a cupped 182, don't let it put you...

Well, I’ve driven the 197 and I don’t get any kickbacks from car manufacturers, nor threats of not placing any advertising with my publication/TV channel, so here are my thoughts:
It seems Renault have tried to make the car more “grown up” The boot is significantly bigger...
I'm with direct line, and my policy says:
Renault Clio 2.0l TROPHY 182.
I'm looking at my cert' right now (Got to take a copy in post merger to prove my business use to claim odd bit of mileage)
I would make very sure you select the right car, as it is a different group and you could be on a...
Will do. If the salesman asks the usual question fishing for trade in "what are you driving now?" he may get nervous. A Trophy and a VAG tuned Mk II 16v GTI.
I will try to refrain from remarks about driving with 2 fat blokes in the back etc. Like the look of the box, but hope it's not too...
Test drive that is.
Got to have a door dink quoted for (lass at work owned up, props) so I'm going to have a blip round in the 197 at the same time. Other half might be flogging the GTI, so mise well have a look.
But I want it all. Sounds like it revs higher in top at motorway speeds than the Trophy, which is a let down. Do you never drive on motorways? Most of my weekday driving is a feast of country road thrashing. My weekend driving is sometimes more of the same, sometimes dull motorway tedium, and I...
If you reaaaly want a car, I'd go for a DCi or a 1.2 16v, as you'll get pwned on insurance for the bigger cars. TBH, you'll be better off with a bike most of the time...
Don't like the sound of the very short gearing. I thought that a 6 speed would make motorway cruising a little cheaper and quieter, but with those ratios I don't see the point. More power band yes, but lots more changes. Might be a bit too close for day to day use.
Still, I'll book a test drive...
Oh yes, the a/c might be manual on the Trophy, but it's the value. I usually just pop the windows down, but that's not a plan over about 60, so the last few weekends the little button on the left has been lowering my mpg, but the trade off is certainly worth it.
Is climate control really worth...
If you're hitting limiter, you're actually past peak power. You need to be able to hear when you can change up and stay in VVC zone. There's a little green light to remind you if you miss it. You're bound to miss the odd one and bounce off limiter here and there though, especially if you're...
