probably the gearbox, very common that they can go pop - but at the same time I've heard of a few which go for miles sounding like that.
Check the oil level in the gearbox as it could be low oil levels causing the noise but if you top it up asap then you could avoid any major damage.
as above they do exist but they are very rare and only come in 5-door. I've heard more bad things about them than good tbh as a few say they aren't that much quicker and that they are also pretty crap for fuel consumption.
PAS pumps are often noisy on them, oil pressure as you mentioned sounds correct. Cambelt should definately be done asap - good bargaining tool ;). It also sounds as though the headgasket will be ok as you often get mayo if the car only does short journeys. Don't see why you couldn't take the...
I've not driven a williams but by all account they area much nicer drive. The 2.0 has a lot more low down torque and they also come with a wider track than a valver as standard. Whether it's worth the extra money when it's just a runaround though is really your choice - best bet would probably...
the exhaust tends to hang quite low sometimes on all Mk1's, though it seems if adjusted properly you can get it to hang level. The williams came with an extra exhaust hanger to stop that happening though. If you wanted you could get an extra hanger welded on to support it, it's usually just at...
best bet for price is to try and find someone local to you breaking one that isn't on the forums. People on the forums tend to charge more from my experience. I got a valver airbox from someone breaking a 16v near me for £5 where as on the forums they go for up to £30.
sounds like he just means there is a flat spot, lol. It will only be the clutch if the revs increase but the speed doesn't, but from what he has said it sounds as though it just seems to slow in it's acceleration at certain revs - i.e. a flat spot.
The thing is though that over the past few months the arse has totally fallen out of the market for valvers in terms of price. Not so long ago people were paying £3000 for a mint valver and for anything that was near £1000 it was though it muse have been a crap example, not you can get a very...
agree with edde tbh, not worth putting it in a Mk2 when you can get a 172 engine that will be easier to fit. However, that engine is rediculously overpriced - can pick up a decent valver engine for about £100.
definately lower than an RT. When you see a standard RT it's crazy just how high they are, lol. I've not got any pics of a standard height 16v but imo they look awesome with most things standard spec (wheels, body etc) but lowered.
If you are willing to pay that then yeah it looks like a nice one tbh. Make sure you still give it a very good look over as even though it's only 49k it could still be a bit of a dog. Also, you'll get a feeling of how they are in terms of price but try and get a bit more than £100 off. The...
if you want to put a 1.8 16v or 2.0 you need the following:
engine, ecu, loom, fuel pump, engine mounts (can use the 1.2 ones if you want but I don't think they are as strong), springs and shocks, calipers and carriers from a 16v to uprate the brakes (As well as new discs/pads). Think thats...
1.4 energy engine is a straight swap. Both the 1.2 and 1.4 look identical from the outside and the 1.4 has an extra 15/20 bhp. Other options would be the rsi 1.8 8v engine (110bhp), or the 1.8 16v (137bhp) or 2.0 16v (150bhp). With anything other than the 1.4 though you would have to change...
If you can afford it then yes I would definately declare the 2.0, but if you can't afford the insurance for the 2.0 then I would personally just not bother to declare it. I have everything declared on my current car and in general say you should declare everything, but when even those who are...
As mentioned above it's near enough impossible to tell the difference between the 1.8 and 2.0 with the engine sitting in the engine bay. I don't know what they would ever be likely to check but I can't see anyone going into enough detail to find out it's a 2.0 as the only sure fire way of...
he's doing it with the engine out btw ;)
But, on the topic of how to do it in the car, my personal preference would be to remove the drivers side engine mount as well as passengers and move the engine as far across in the bay as possible. Then you have enough room to get at the clutch without...
lol, tbh what I have offered is about the best I can offer given it's condition, not even got anywhere to put it just now though, lol. Though I should hopefully be able to get somewhere to keep it if the need should arise ;)
I would check battery voltages, and if edde is meaning the cts then it's the one lower down in the middle of your pic on the thermostat. I've never heard of it causing a slow turnover, but edde know a hell of a lot more than me so I'll say it's worth a go.
It's not that one you've shown on the...
not sure how much a tosion bar is, but you could always buy a cheaper one second hand. Someone off the forum would probably fit a new one for you fairly cheaply. If your handy with a spanner at all the best bet would be to try and take the torison bar out and have a look at it, or that's what...
