fair enough, as people have said the 1.8 manifold is different to the 2.0 manifold - but, the problem with using that to judge is that the manifolds are interchangable so people often keep the 1.8 manifold for insurance reasons.
ingram - tbh I don't know why you are spouting so much shite. I'm not saying that brammer is/isn't correct about it being a 2.0 but to try and take the piss because he can't tell if it's a 1.8/2.0 is a load of b****cks because the two engine look pretty much identical when in the engine bay and...
it's just at the join between the gearbox and engine. If you have a multimeter then you can check if it's ok by checking the resistance of it which should be about 250ohms +- a bit iirc.
Just get the one you have welded. It's a very common problem but if you get it welded properly then that will be it fixed for good. If you buy another one, especially if it's a 2nd hand one, then it's likely to just do the same in a while.
16v beam will not fit - as someone said above you need an RSi rear beam as teh 16v is too wide for the RT body. IMO it's not worth it as it won't making a major difference to braking performance. Best bet for improved braking would be to get 16v brakes on the front. You just need the...
never driven a 1.2 8v but would have thought it would certainly manage more the 90mph give that my 1.4 can pretty easily reach over 100 and could sit there all day long.
Thats partly why I'm selling the 16v. The crap thing about the 16v/williams is just the weakness of the gearboxes imo. They just seem to go pop all the time. A 172 box will fit, but you would need to fit an electronic speedo iirc. If you are going to replace it I would personally replace it...
It was me saying it over on WC as well, but they do fit. I've been told that there is a gap left between the sump and box, but there are plenty people running them with no problem.
I'm guessing you mean if the RT box could take the power of the RSi? Yes it could and there are plenty valvers running RT boxes as the boxes are just as strong as valver boxes. The gear ratios would be different, but it's not possible for them to be wrong as such.
only spotted this now. You can use the gearbox from the RT and the only things I can think of that aren't on your list are an ECU and possibly fuel pump. I don't know if the fuel pump is necessary with an RSi engine or not - but probably worth finding out about as it's piss easy to change...
I'm getting so sick of these bloody cars. I bought a 16v nearly 6 months ago now which needed a new gearbox. The plan was to put on a new gearbox then keep the 16v and sell the 1.4. However it wasn't all that straight forward and after fitting a new box I got all sorts of other problems with...
head over to retro-renault.co.uk Theres at least one person on their who did the conversion themselves and a few people that will definately be able to answer your questions.
as said above the valver suspension will be a straight fit as long as you have 54mm hubs - and there is no need to get valver hubs as long as yours are 54mm. However it won't lower your 1.2 60mm - will probably be more that that as valvers are about 35mm lower as standard anyway, however on the...
remove driveshafts, engine mounts, drain coolant and disconnect hoses, disconnect ecu, disconnect the exhaust. Think that should be most of it, but I'm not sure what needs disconnected, if anything from the power steering setup.
there is a definate difference between the looms, but I'm not sure how you can tell. Best bet is to ask the likes of winston and matbrown as it was them that made me aware of the different looms when I thought I was going to need one for the 16v. I would think you could find out from the...
1) Don't think there will be a guide as such for the loom but you will have to make sure it's the right loom because iirc theres 3 different looms for valvers.
2) I think any ECU should work but if you use a Ph1 ECU on a Ph2 valver then the immobiliser won't work, similarly I don't know if a...
A decat will go straight on but you have to bear in mind that it will probably fail an MOT with the decat so you will probably have to buy a CAT on at some point anyway.
iirc I paid about £130 to get mine done at a garage. That was when I didn't really do much work on the car myself but now I wouldn't definately do it myself as I don't think it's supposed to be all that bad a job.
I use a screwdriver and a hammer to get mine off as mine have the outer lip you can hit. The first ones that were on there I had to cut off though as they wouldn't budge after ages trying. New ones are only about £1 from renault so if they won'y budge at all just cut a bitt off the edge and...
Not the same as standard as Sambo has a 1.4 RT. I would agree that with going for R5/RSi brakes you are as well going for 16v brakes usually as you just need the other carriers as the callipers are the same, but iirc sambo has 13's on his car so 16v brakes wouldn't fit behind the wheels.
