As said above just buy one, but make have a good look round it and make sure it's in good nick. A good valver can be very reliable but you can get some complete dogs as well which do seem to have endless problems. Personally I am happy enough to get one, looking now, as I know almost anything...
Who is ICS? I'm with elephant. Insured the 1.4 after I had had my license a year for £800 tpft with elephant. My first year I was under my mums name as I was getting quotes of around £1800 at the cheapest and just couldn't afford that. From my experience having had your license for a year...
surely they need to honour the price they quoted you originally? I'm guessing you have paid the £800 and until now were insured with them?
As for putting it in your parents name, fair enough it's not the best idea but depending on your age there might be no real option. For my first year of...
Forgot to say but I'm using V18.
Mods - you are quick tonight that was up no more than 30 seconds before it was moved, lol. Always forget the tech part exists.
Does anyone off here use the solid edge program for making 3D drawings?
Using it just now for a uni project but I need to draw some gears and can't get it to work. The problem is that it's a really small gear wheel, about 20mm diameter, but everytime I put in the spec I need it just makes a...
have you checked all the wheels for play? When I got my front bearing changed at a garage, before I started doing work on the car myself, it cost me about £70 iirc. Thats about standard price of which about £20 is the bearing.
afaik there isn't any way other than a compression test or taking the head off, but as you say to do a compression test you need to fit a new belt. I don't know much about the 1.6 engines but I would be very doubtfull that you won't have bent some valves as unless I'm wrong none of the clio...
go for the standard clutch imo, as I've never heard of any problem with them. Standard part is valeo, which is £100+ from renault but I got one for £70 or so from a local motor factors (brown brothers). The one I got came as a unipart one but was stamped as a valeo.
I wouldn't think a jb1 will necessarily last longer (proabably the same sort of time) than a valver box, but it will certainly fit and is pretty much as strong as a valver box and will probably be a bit cheaper.
basically engine out, remove cylinder head from old engine and put it on the new bottom end then back in. There are a few other things that need changed such as the starter motor, and iirc the flywheel if it's a megane bottom end you use. Try doing a search here and on WC and there should be...
I'm sure it would "fit" but you will probably need custom mounts etc and probably a custom downpipe. Not really all that sure about what would be involved but would really say you would be better off putting a 172 lump in there as it will be easier and possibly cheaper as you won't need all the...
if it's a mk2 clio you have then it'll be a bugger tbh I would think. Would be much better putting a 172 lump in there as the wiring will be totally different for the 1.8 as it's out of a mk1. If you meant mk1 ph2 however, then yeah it's a piss easy conversion and the wiring is just plug and play
Best mod would be to put a 2.0 bottom end on there. Only a difference of 13bhp, but 2.0 bottom end gives much more torque low down and there is a huge difference (apparently, never driven a 2.0 myself). Then you could take any further mods from there, but not really any point in tuning a...
posted that before your last one. Brakes are slightly different. They use the same calipers but the rsi carriers are different. This means that smaller diameter discs are used on the rsi, but you can convert them to 16v breaks just by getting new carriers, but you would also need bigger wheels...
the engines are almost completely different. If you are talking about parts for the engine itself then hardly anything will fit, other than the gearbox and driveshafts. All internal parts and manifolds are different to my knowledge.
My old mans insurance is up for renewal soon and his quote has gone up since last year to over £600. He's got a 2.0 TDCi mondeo with himself, myself (19 with license for 2 year) and my mum on it.
Anyone got any suggestions for where to try? Last years was only about £500 or so and at the...
Get yourself an impact wrench. I bought one for £10 and it wipped the strut tops straight off. The other option is to take it to a garage and get them to airgun them off, then do them up loosely to get you home and then take it from there. Personally I would go with the impact wrench though...
Chances are you will need to replace the all the valves, so you might as well fitting either another engine, or another cylinder head from a clio being broken as it might work out cheaper in the long run. Nest bet is to get some prices from garages.
It can take the power as well as a valver box - but they are well known for blowing boxes anyway. Ratios will be different, but can't remember what they are exactly. There will be a gap between the sump and the box if you use the box off the 1.4 but it's nothing to worry about as it works fine...
thats the same gasket that edde was referring to. The rocker gasket going is a very common problem on these engines. Pretty straightforward job and doesn't take very long.
or if your ever out near currie let me know and I'll have a quick spy at it if you want. I'm no expert but I know my way around the engine to have a quick look for you. Is the level of the oil decreasing much?
