If I were looking to spend £14k on a 2-seater, I'd be getting an 2004/5 S2k or S1 Exige.
I liked the VX220T thing - owned one for a year - and sourcing parts that go wrong (bubbling/ crazing clams and suspension components) is bloody hard - ie, like hens teeth, so I'd not bother...
Ph1 Vee or Ph2?
Ph1's are slower than an S, Ph2's are quicker.
S2K prices range from £6k to £26k - what end of the spectrum are you looking?
If you want some *very* useful info on S2K's - PM me.
I'd have another one in an instant...
Being an older man (34 ;)) and having owned both an AP1 and an EP3 - and used both on track - the S2K is faster through corners but is no faster in a straight line. I guarantee it.
To say an S2000 pulls away "no problem" from an EP3 CTR is nonsense, sorry. :) *Unless it's wet - The Civic had...
Is there a halfway house between the solid KTR mounts and the poo quality stock items?
Because the car is going to be my daily driver, I'm not sure I'm man enough for solid mounts!
Are you trying to say people have transplanted a Civic Type-R engine (K20a) into an S2000?
If you are saying that, why would you swap the 240bhp 2.0ltr 4-pot (F20c) in the S2K, for a 197bhp 2.0ltr 4 (K20a)?
If you reckon you can get 500bhp by strapping a turbo onto a stock F20c, your engine...
"Some oil smoke from engine at high revs ( and well over the speed limit!)... ...This engine is by no means at the end of it's life."
For an engine with 93k on it, should I expect a BIT of smoke?
At this price, would it be worth spending a bit to sort the issue? Or is it a matter of 'there are...
You make a very good point, given the current rate of depreciation!
Clio's will also inevitably reach a point where the value of the vehicle is less than the cost to perform a cambelt service!
How scary is that?! :dead:
ITR's are getting a bit long in the tooth though, surely - Most on PH are on the wrong side of 100k miles and will invariably have been treated like $hit by some unsympathetic toerag...
Better built or not, most are double the age of the equivalent Clio and will have components that will be...
I was looking at this one.
No service history and no receipt for the cambelt change either.
Taking the above into account, I walked away.
Speak to Alex.S - His is for sale for about £2.5k, but it needs belts in 6mths.
Nicest Ph1 on CS.
Top job!
Oh, and I'm jealous that you have time to be bored - since having a kid, I feel like I don't have a moment to myself anymore!! :)
Pretty much what I've found.
One person's pony is another's racehorse... :dead:
I used to detail my cars as a hobby and I find that it's a bit of a curse - you notice the slightest blemish. You can't be like that at this price point though :o
I'll keep looking for the right car, sure...
Up to £3.8k.
I do realise that this may be part of my problem, but I know there are some good cars out there for this money (and less!).
Mr.Dallas and Ads both had Cups for sale for ~£3.5k. Both 'looked' cosseted - a quality everyone aspires to find in a used car...
The reason for missing...
After selling the Elise, I'm still trying to find a decent 172/ Cup!
Had a look at one today that had:
- Full main dealer service history, yet didn't have a receipt/ proof of a cambelt change. The owner - an honest-looking mature chap, who had owned it since 2005 - didn't also recall the...
Can of worms...
To my mind, as an outsider, it seems that most 172 owners want the Cup's look and handling. Hardly a pikey car if the 'aspirational' 172 is lacking so many of the upgraded components and the more hardcore look?
Check:
engine and exhaust mounts
back box
history
belts...
^^ Assuming that you're implying that a bigger engine means it's quicker:
CH1 ATR = ~1400kg // 210bhp (JDM has 220bhp)
EP3 CTR = ~1200kg // 200bhp
The Civic would be quicker.
