Been looking at Cups up to about £4k and this is one of the better ones TBH.
On the evidence of my last few months searching, some people really treat their cars like $hit!
...If I should go for:
a) A 65k, W-plate, £2500 Phase 1 that needs a cambelt and wheel refurb (£700-ish) that appears to have been well maintained (FSH, lots of receipts, lots of preventative maintenance).
AND
b) A 84k, 53-plate, £3300 Cup that has a FDSH but has very minor cosmetic damage...
95/ 97 RON fuel won't make a huge difference.
Heat soak and warm weather will.
Hot/ warm air contains less oxygen molecules per given volume and will give a smaller 'bang' than cold air.
Cold air is more dense = bigger bang and will give you more 'go' - get a CAI kit.
It may have been...
I wouldn't - Not enough of a margin to be worth MY time.
However, if you're keen and you're savvy where you get bits from (breakers, ebay, etc.) it COULD work out...
My sister just needed 2 new tyres for her MOT (on crappy Fiesta steel wheels). I just bought a set of alloys with new-ish tyres...
I loved my 330 Sport.
Very cheap to run, on the whole. Hated 17mpg around town though! (32mpg on a run on cruise).
Only things to watch for:
- Front, rear wishbone bushes
- Door seals sag
- Non-Sport derivatives posing as Sports - A sport should have a BLACK interior with a BLACK roof lining!
Surely any couriered item is insured?
They should have insurance as a business. Speak to them about visiting a small claims court and they should listen?
Sucks to be you, eh? :)
And spending sh*tloads on an OLD car to 'mod' it is a fools game. Like this poor soul's car:
I would happily spend £1.5k on a £2.5k car to make it 'fit' for track work, but £2.5k on a £1.5k car?
Especially when you look at this...
Because spending twice the value of the car on 'mods' is stupid! It would be better/ more savvy/ more sensible to spend the total budget on a better car!
The nature of the budget (ie - not being very big) means that 'person X' doesn't have money to burn and makes the whole proposition a bit...
MG ZR 160?
Supposed to be cheap and pretty good fun?
No personal experience though!
However, after the Elise I'd NEVER have a K-Series engined car again - Goddam HGF...
Exactly why I think they command a premium over the 172.
Perceived reliability of French cars and the philosophy that if there's something to go wrong on them, it will! ;)
I saw a Cup advertised with "Zeons and Abs" some people haven't got a clue.
They're the ones to avoid IMO - clearly not an enthusiast who cossets their car!
Piece of string mate.
What's needed? How hardcore do you want to be? It'll be ok stock!
Insurance? Depends - annually or per event? Try http://www.nowellandrichards.co.uk/track-day-insurance.aspx - They offer a policy that has track insurance built into a 'normal' policy!
Track days? Last...
Hardly "sonny" at 34 years old, eh? :)
Anyway, credit where it's due - I've just had a look at yours and think it'd be pretty nice with Trophy coloured wheels!
Good luck with the sale!
Really? I'm confused about your interpretation of my post that leads you to think I'm a domineering browbeater?
How am I a bully? All I did was confirm that James has a very clean looking example that is well advertised.
That appeals to ME.
The others on PH that I cite have poorly written...
TBF, yours looks like one of the only 2 Cups on PH I'd touch - I wouldn't go near the others with my money!
When you consider there is another Cup on PH that has had it's belts done this week, has a FDSH and is priced @ £4k with literally half the mileage of yours £3600-3800 is fair...
Maybe...
