driving to and back from mot without tax and insurance...

No it doesn't, it is the driver that needs cover, not the car. It's a myth been going for years, IF your insurance says you can drive other cars then you are insured to drive that car, similar to how a trader can drive a car without the car itself being insured. You must not leave the car though...

driving to and back from mot without tax and insurance...

True under the newish legislation which I forgot about, but that won't stop you, as a driver, from driving an uninsured car under your Drive Other Cars cover. You won't be done for no insurance so long as your policy says you can drive other cars with the owners permission. Any penalty sent...

driving to and back from mot without tax and insurance...

You need day insurance or get someone with Drive Other Car cover to drive it (It's a myth that the car needs to be insured in its own right - unless the policy says so which is rare)

    341hp Supercharged Clio :) 0.9 bar boost 7900rpm limit

I know this is a basic question but what happens at MoT time regarding the emissions if you've fit a turbo/supercharger etc, is the emissions limit raised? Just something I've always wondered.

    Any Ideas???

Edited my post as realised I was looking at the other 0-60 vid in my folder, a sign that I'm too tired I think so off to bed! But... Your 0-60 seems 6.5ish seconds even if the speedo is overreading a little... very quick

Ssomeones cheating wifes sat nav up for sale...

His last 2 sales are also for faulty satnavs, making this his 3rd faulty satnav for sale... too much of a coincidence. I smell a made up story to help sell a dodgy satnav ;)

i feel sick :( cambelt snapped..

If he was a good mate and wanted to help he'd pay to get your car fixed by someone who can actually fix it. Nothing sinks in with you does it? I won't be surprised if he starts saying his cambelt job had nothing to do with the engine failure soon, "just a coincidence mate", he already lied to...

    Clio 172 Oil Change

I think one of the best quality oils for the money is Fuchs Titan SuperSyn 5w-40 Fully Synthetic. I've seen it recommended by Fred and a good few others who know what they're talking about so you should have no issues using it. If money's no object then you can probably get slightly better, but...

i feel sick :( cambelt snapped..

What gets me is we knew he was doing a cack job and said so but you kept defending him... he never did the job properly by getting the timing wrong and lied about the reasons (wrong locking pin indeed) to cover his lack of knowledge, now he's f**ked your car up completely and you still defend...

Might as well update this for anyone discovering this thread in the future... his engine went boom 3 days later http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?602028-i-feel-sick-%28-cambelt-snapped.. !

    0-60mph times

I can't believe you could even think a car manufacturer would use an ordinary uncalibrated speedometer to work out the 0-60 time. They can overread by up to 10% by law but cannot underread. That's massive if you're trying to work out an accurate 0-60. And just lol @ "it doesn't matter if it's a...

    0-60mph times

Then take half a second or so off the time if it makes you happy; your car's still an 8-second-ish 0-60 on the evidence of your video. I doubt that's any more accurate than your shaky camera recording the inaccurate speedo from an angle method.

    0-60mph times

I set the start and end points by going frame by frame: http://ccgi.pendulum.plus.com/mov.wmv It takes 7.09 seconds from when the speedo needle moves to when it gets to an indicated 60mph on the speedo, from the perspective of the camera. We all know speedo's tend to overread, lets say 64mph on...

172 Cambelt replacment, parts and head overhaul

I suggested that a while ago but it wasn't a go'er, basically for the reasons that lent tools may not be returned or may be damaged plus liability issues. The traders weren't too keen on a turn towards everyone doing their cambelts themselves either, understandably, as it would mean less work...

    0-60mph times

My bad, total memory failure. I had 97bhp in my head for some reason, but it wasn't anywhere near that after just checking the stats. The Fiesta always felt nippier than it was. My 1.9TD was 110bhp though.

    0-60mph times

Possibly, but the thing is I've never driven another 172 to compare mine against which doesn't help. Quote from Fred: "the F4R's are incredibly sensetive when it comes to timing, 1mm here or there can = 30bhp lost" Compared to my 1.2 Fiesta which was nearly 100bhp, and my other car that was...

cracked carbon splitter on broken speedbump

You might be able to argue that the speed bump was made of unsuitable material and shouldn't have been placed on the road in the first place if they can collapse like that. That puts you in a stronger position than if you'd hit a pothole IMO.
  22. P

    0-60mph times

I got 8 seconds for my 172. I measured from 0 to 65mph as speedos do tend to overread, so if you stop the clock at 60 you've got a false reading. My cambelt was last changed (previous owner) by Mr Clutch, so doubtless the timing is a bit out and it's not as fast as it could be. I did get the...

cracked carbon splitter on broken speedbump

This is like hitting a pothole, if they say "It was fine at last inspection X days ago and we have had no reports" then legally they can get away without paying because they haven't been negligent and can't be expected to fix a fault that arises the exact millisecond it happens... but I would...

am i right in thinking this is the camshafts?

To my eternal and everlasting shame I have not checked my oil level in my 172 since buying it. It says "Oil Ok" every time I turn it on, but I know I shouldn't rely on that. MUST check it tomorrow... I have all the bits for an oil change in the garage too, I have just got to get round to doing...

    cambelt lack of power.

Not at all, you've had good advice in both threads, the advice is most mechanics don't do a proper job when faced with a tricky job that is the F4R. There's no miracle answer, your mechanic just needs to do the job right, if he can't do the job right then take it to a mechanic that knows what...

    Renault Launch Dealer Star Ratings

My local one is 4 1/2 star for service, but it only takes one review to put me off completely (no matter how many other reviews there are), that review was "The emission light came up. The dealer said I would need a new catalytic converter and quoted me £1,750. I took my car to another garage...

Why do so many people sell up?

A lot of it's due to financial sense or lack of I think, some people are good at earning money but then waste it big time by doing things a tightarse like me wouldn't dream of, and spending hundreds or even thousands on mods then selling for a loss soon after is a big no no for me. Even if I...
