The main reason I paid my £12 membership was for the guides which were described as "good" and "helpful".
If I paid and the first guide I accessed was yours I'd have done a PayPal chargeback quicker than you can say "bucket fail" :D
I thought "yeah right" when I read the coppers thought it was a 100mph crash... then I saw the pictures. Very bad accident. Glad your ok. Don't think of the driving ban as a penalty, it's not, you want to make sure your ok before you get back behind the wheel more than anyone, if it were to...
I got told off for buying my 172 because "it's going to be much harder to put the child seat in the back now, you didn't think of that or me did you". She kept on for ages.
Renault has probably been nagged to death by women of child-bearing age who've said a 5 door is necessary and they won't...
Happened to me once at a merge point where the right lane merges in to the left. I was in the left lane and had already let one car in front of me. A car come steaming up the outside and he tried to bully his way in. After a while of intimidation (I stood my ground) he gave up and went back...
I'm stripping my old Citroen ZX and dropped a ratchet on the intercooler which was on the floor, damaged the fins and pipes, noone will buy it now so its cost me a few quid but lesson learnt, these things are soft :)
You could look in to a repair, there's a few DIY methods out there, not sure...
I saw a post a few days ago on here about the same thing happening, and the bloke needing a new bumper, at the time I nearly searched for this thread to link to it, but I was too lazy! Unless that was you too.
You could add a tinted film over the sensor so it thinks it's darker than it is...
Altering the resistance in the sensor circuit is probably another option but you need to know what you're doing!
I doubt there's a magic button anywhere to achieve what you want. I could be wrong (usually am).
The worst mod possible has got to be a show cage. Pathetic on so many levels. A bonnet spacer which makes the car look like it's been in front ender is a close second.
I don't think anyone can tell you for sure how hard it will be. It does depend on how much of a mind for mechanics you have, and to some extent, luck. By luck I mean whether or not you will run in to problems (like encountering a seized brake disk screw which you round off trying to undo it...
What's the rule? Never use an ill fitting tool... for that reason using a door handle spindle seems a bit iffy to me. Unless it's a good fit your risking rounding the square and you'll seriously struggle to get the bolt off then. Considering how cheap they are I'd just buy the correct tool...
Alarm bells rang when you said you "paid a deposit because you couldn't get to see it to tomorrow". Dealers love this, you'll have come across as absolutely desperate for the car so they won't do much if anything off the asking price. You paid a lot for it but that's water under the bridge now...
That water's going somewhere, if it's not leaking out then it's probably going through the exhaust in the form of white smoke. Off to the garage for a test to check it's the headgasket I reckon.
You can buy your own code reader for £40 so sod paying someone else £40 to read the code!
My emissions light comes on sometimes. The seller mentioned this in his description but I bought it anyway (good price). I hooked it up to my code reader and it said O2 sensor. Then I took it to the MoT...
On Halfords website the sump washer that comes up for "Renault sump washer" isn't the right one. No rubber insert. They do sell a washer for £1.99 with a rubber insert but that's for the Ford Mondeo and looks different, probably the wrong size.
I can definitely think of some bodges to avoid...
Ohh, it will mate.
I've been there and done that (thinking that reusing a washer will be fine... drip... drip... learnt my lesson!).
I think you've answered your own question.
Either drain, renew washer, refill, or put up with the small leak until next oil change!
Before refitting I always...
Cheers ;) Had it over 2 weeks now and all it's needed is petrol. Still love it.
Exterior wise it's not the best 172 out there, but the interior makes up for it and it's mechanically sound, and for £1400 that's all that matters tbh.
No plans except to treat it to a good service (inc. gearbox...
True.
The prices for PH2's advertised here were at least £800 more than eBay and Autotrader. That's fine if the car you're buying is tip top and enthusiastically looked after. When I checked the sellers previous posts, quite a few rang alarm bells, for example a seller posted about his dephaser...
Looks like something a 3 year old would being home from nursery tbh
No offence
You may be able to smarten it up
Post a pic when it's all done and fitted?
I bought my 172 recently and I did get the impression it's a bit of a buyers market! I'm not sure if it will get any better though, I think prices may only get lower.
