I think you should grow some balls mate. You are 21 and you propose to do what your parents want you to do rather than what you want to do!! Its your life mate.
Explain?
If I am in the market for a hot hatch, its because i want to be engrossed in the driving experience, while maintaining a little practicality.
Build quality is not a major concern of mine. If it was, I may have bought a VAG car or maybe a Jap car.
I'm surprised really that someone who...
Yes, it has got good reviews, because its a good car. Most people who have compared and most reviews i've read where the cars are compared, the Clio is usually favoured over the Civic for the reason of it being more fun to drive. That is the key thing, if that is what you value more than...
Since you ask about the T-Sport, I drove that within a day of driving the CTR. All things considered, if I had to choose between a CTR and Celica, I'd take the Celica every time.
The engine is very similar in character, but to me, was more manic as the lift kicked in, and when it did, it really...
God this forum really is like groundhog day at times.
Civic Type R too boring for me. Yes its revvy, but yet, i didnt think its sound was all that amazing, not that the clio is either, but some people make out as if its worth wanking over - it isnt. The handling is grippy and competent, but...
Definitely agree with saving your money and getting a real RS. The money you waste making it look like one would pay for the insurance. I always say this to people who embark on projects like this, and usual get abuse back, but its a fact!
Obviosly though :D
They have 40 bhp more than a clio and superior aerodynamics, which matters more at high speeds.
But between 0-100 i'd fancy a something such as a ph1 172 / cup / 182 to beat an ST220 though.
Why do you need more than 100 mph anyway? Speaking personally i am potentially...
Dont know about anyone else on here, but i see less ph1 172's than i do Trophy's.
It seems if you want exclusivity, a ph1 172 might be the way to go nowadays.
Remember, this is the very chassis the Ford Puma was based on, and most people on this forum will agree they do handle very well, so why anyone would say a 1.2 8v clio is a step up from one of those beats me.
I wouldnt personally.
OK I own a 182 and love it, but if you have had no problems with it, why get rid?
15" wheels so cheaper tyres and more chuckable handling (less overall grip but better to chuck around). Cable throttle - better response. Light weight compared to a 182.
Also, I always...
Thats definitely not a downgrade IMO.
OK, they are ugly, but....
They handle excellently, even for a fairly "mundane" model, and that engine is superb, very revvy and sounds really nice for what it is.
Cracking cars those mate.
Not sure whether that comment was a genuine query or a sarcastic reply, but yes similar power... the 172 has 170 bhp and the VR6 174 bhp. The Golf weighs a lot more though. Therefore, clio is faster.
Clio doesnt have that much torque, but it doesnt need it, torque is not what defines overall...
I am talking about standard cars though. The one i had a test drive of was standard, and it was nothing special. Very revvy yes, but i expected better, especially after the T-Sport i'd driven the previous day, which really roared, almost like a baby F1 car.
End of the day these are just...
Whatever, thats your opinion, fair enough.
Dont say i didnt drive it properly though, cos i'm damn sure i did. Never dropped out of its cam zone once. Its not exactly difficult now is it?
But no i didnt like the sound of it, it sounded mechanical and strained. Try a Celica T-Sport and you'll...
The CTR is over 1200 kg. That IS heavy :p (in fact the 197 is about the same weight, look what people say about that - yes thats right, its heavy, but nobody argues with that).
The chassis is competent, but dull.
And the 1.8T engines ARE dull sounding engines, i've been in enough to know this...
Exhaust - £235 + £50 fitting.
Pads + Lines - £100 inc fitting
So about £385.
Worth it? Not sure. The upgraded brake lines have given the best difference so far.
I dont intend to spend much money modding though. I think i would rather save up for a different car than modding a car which...
Clio is a better handling car IMO. I wouldnt say a car that, as ozzie puts it, understeers constantly when pushed is a particularly good handling characteristic. It might be predictable, but thats not fun. Simple fact is it lacks the outright chuckability, agility and feedback levels of the clio...
Old cars definitely more fun. My old golf GTI had 110 bhp yet was just as much fun as my 180 bhp clio. What does that tell ya? Imagine a 180 bhp Mk2 Golf!
Why would you want one though? I find the gearknob is a bit cheap and nasty personally in mine, i'd get a replacement from someone like momo if i didnt have better things to spend money on!
