My old MX5 failed the MOT so I need a new car. Something quick and fun to drive but cheap to run. So I'm looking at going back to the clio fold.
I was mainly thinking of a Phase 1, but the Cup attracts plenty of praise.
I've got £2K to spend.
The way I see it, from what I've read:-
Phase 1...
I work there. I am gonna grass you up :p
Just kidding, you are pretty lucky though. I've parked the work van there a few times as its right next to the door for unloading stuff due to someone being in the loading bay. I don't think the mayors car is there very often - its never there when I've...
I went from a 182 to a DC2, and I did find the latter a better car overall. It seemed to handle better, had a much better engine note, and just felt more special, more of an event, thanks to its looks and its excellent driving position and seats. Didn't really cost any more to run, either.
Must admit I didnt realise they were that heavy (the Mazda). That is a massive difference you're right.
Anyway, a clio would probably be more fun to drive anyway. Who cares about whether it makes its book figure or not as long as you like the way it drives.
Renault are twunts. Mine was knackered, but was still in warranty yet they refused to repair it stating that it was "wear and tear" - in a 15K miles car. Absolutely ridiculous IMO.
With all due respect there is no way a Clio Sport will accelerate faster than a Mazda 6 MPS. They will be faster in every situation. 4WD will afford it superior traction off the line, and then, it will have a superior top end thanks to its extra power which is best part of 100 BHP more and...
DC2... i traded my 182 in for one, and have never looked back. They ARE very good cars... not that the clio isnt a good car, but the teg is just awesome.
Amazing how many people here dont seem to know what they are talking about, and this is coming from someone who is no expert.
OK, same power, same weight, etc etc...
In a straight drag race, the cars SHOULD be identical, if they have the same power, weight and driver.
Of course, its obviously...
Eh? Whats this? A 197 racer, with just over 200 bhp, is unable to get away from a tuned 172 Cup which probably weighs several hundred kilograms less?
No s**t sherlock.
Interesting thread.
I personally think the 182 is somewhat overrated. Thats not to say its not a great little car, because it is, but it is possible to have more fun in equally so, or even more attainable cars.
Before I got the 182 I had a mk2 Golf GTI. It was only the 8v model, so as hot...
Modern hot hatches have lost the plot. Thats why I ended up replacing my 182 with a nigh on 10 year old Honda.
If I had to choose though I would have the clio over the Corsa. The Corsa is a hideous charver car with crap handling. At least the Clio looks good.
Aye for a 96 spec maybe, you try finding a completely mint, completely standard 98 spec JDM for £5k. Bet you cant...
I wasnt getting offered much more than £7k for my 182.
Besides, dont care, as I now have a blatantly better car. :rasp:
If I'd kept my 182 i would have modded it to look better (splitter, new wheels, spoiler etc), to go slightly faster (remap), and to handle better (coils). Thats on top of what I had already done to the brakes and exhaust.
Instead, I did a straight swap for a car which satisfied all of those...
Can vouch for that. I traded my 182 in for a JDM DC2 Integra, and its a fantastic car. Definitely better than the CTR or Clio Sport. Faster, better looking, better built, better handling and better sounding. A lot more expensive to insure though.
Never driven a scoob. Know someone who did, and...
Thats why I would like to see them ideally, they look good in the pictures, but can imagine how they might look a little smaller than the standard wheels...
I wouldnt get them on without lowering by around 30 mm first though.
Yeah i like the look of those too, but prefer the others. Not keen on that blue logo thing.
Had thought about the white Buddy wheels but I am not quite 100% sure about how it really goes with white. I've seen white look both good on some silver cars, but crap on others.
Tempted to get some new wheels for my 182, and while looking on k-tec's site then I notice these alloys, which I like the look of, not quite so common as the turini but still lighter than standard...

However, they don't really say what they...
ok mr t0sser, this is going to be my last comment in this thread.
first i dont care that your car is allegedly faster. Its comical to me that your car being faster than somebody elses is so important to you, and then buy one of the slowest medium size hot hatches on the market, lol. 6our car...
I'm so happy for you.
What a cráp analogy. We are talking about cars, not holidays.
Incidentally, if you just want results, why a Mk5 when there are faster cars than that available? (meggy for one). Your argument is flawed.
Shows what you know.
Never said they were the be all and end...
As usual (by which i mean, like most people, seemingly), I think you confuse handling with grip. I dont doubt the Golf can corner at high speeds, and post good lap times. But you wont feel part of the experience as much as in a clio. Feel is everything, unless you base how good a car is simply...
A 1400kg Golf, no doubt blessed with vague electronic steering, drive by wire throttle, a turbo charged engine (which, with the best will in the world, are never quite as responsive and linear as N/A engines), a better handling car than what is, by comparison, a lightweight and back to basics...
Someone who works at the same place as me has a 182 with what look like very similar wheels, and to be honest, i dont like it at all. Definitely go with the turinis over those.
I find very few people know what a "182" is. There is a few people at work who know what it is, but even then only maybe a couple of those know what its capable of. The ones who are into cars know what they are capable of.
However it makes me laugh what some people think. For example, one lad...
Just wondering what the opinions are of having white wheels, and / or stripes on a silver 182? Saw this on PH today and i thought it looked quite good. I've long thought about these visual mods for mine but never been sure whether they'd be any good or not? Saw this pic today on PH (might be...
