I wouldnt say its normal, you taken it to a garage? They should be able to either look at it and see whats wrong or plug in a diagnostics kit :)

Was wondering if anyone in or near to Gloucestershire wanted to meet up some time, most meetings here are near to 2 hours drive for me and not trying to sound a wimp but i hate driving long distance on motorways. Any ideas guys?

Hello all! Thought I would introduce myself, im Josh an 18yr old student from Gloucestershire. I passed my test last year and was given my dad's Mk 1 RT on the condition that I covered costs and looked after it, tbh its basicaly my car now lol. Anyway I havent done allot of 'moddification' work...

Yeah thats a fair point, I too thought all Mk1's had a sun roof?

Other thing you could try is to get a volt meter on the contacts to check your getting the correct voltage through, you may have a short out or earth fault somewhere

ECU glitch possibly? Or maybe something clogging the fuel system? As for your first gear im not sure but I have a simmilar thing with my Mk1 being tempermental with 1st doesnt always happen though, but probably comletly different lol

Ah just like me with a little more money lol, sounds quite good so far mate. Ummm in not very good with 'new' clio's take it that's a Mk3 but what is the engine in there? just out of curiosity. I think ill be watching this with interest.

I would go back and rant at the garage and make them take another look, because obviously they have diagnosed it wrong apart from the good old rant at the mechanic ive got no ideas, sorry

Air con will add weight to the car because its basicaly a mini fridge that chills the air and yes it definitly does sap power my clio doesnt have AC but our Skoda does and (best example) its sat at idle and you switch it on the revs drop a little, it also will cause you to use a little more...

Im not really that wonderful on the subject, tbh im learning as i go mostly and also picked stuff up over the years working with relatives and the like but my guess to your second question about the Lambda sensor would be that they will either move it or the other possibilty would be to disable...

Aha just though of something else I can ask your opinions on before i get my hands covered in engine muck and the like, theres a 'clunk' coming from the engine bay. My dad and I (we havent checked it yet havent had time) think its possibly the engine mount(s) come loose and causing the clunk...

yeah the original plan was to get a valver as i said above i think, but as you say its more fun and the way i see it is i want a car i myself can be proud of because i can say 'yes i did the work on that car' also i love tinkering with cars and machines (its a problem when your dad is a mechanic...

but now i think about it, probably not worth it. not on the factor that its not a high performance engine or anything but id be wasting my money right now on that engine because some point down the line im going to swap it over for a valver engine

yeah its for looks mainly, ive got to replace some of the pipe soon so thought i would just put a decent set in while i was at it
