only thing I noticed when I was working at knockhill was the buffer increase 17 V 6 makes a huge difference on RAW shooting lol. I don't bother with colour on the screen because its a jpeg not a RAW image which does make a huge differernce.
its a huge upgrade not only in IQ from the vastly superior sensor but you get bigger buffer, better focus, FEC, better chassis.
you'll not see any noticable difference between 20/30/40D (40D slightly more noise).
large apertures will reduce DOF not what you want for glamour shots.
make sure its warm, make sure she does not wear tight clothing as skin marks are not attractive.
better off without flash, natural light with gold reflector will give a warm result.
I'd probably not go below 50mm...
10mm fish eye on a canon 40D = 168 degree view
10mm rectilinear on a canon 40D = 110degree view
top picture is a wide angle lens (you can tell due to the perspective) probably around 15-17mm on a crop camera.
nothing to do with ISO, thats just bad exposure. changing the iso will just adjust the shutter speed (in av mode) or increase aperture (in tv mode)
depending on the sensitivity of the ISO.
the way to change the exposure would be to adjust the exposure compensation to let less light in
