A bit harsh Gordon. All cars are pretty much like this WRT speedo accuracy. In fact if anything, i think the Clio is better than many cars i've used in that respect.
Right I went opposite way from Fabia vRS to 182, and I definitely wouldnt go back.
The vRS is a nice car. And there is a certain novelty at first to the shove in the back it has as well as the overall quality, comfort and ride quality.
But believe me, after a few months when you are out on...
Another one here who finds the driving position ok!
I like the way it looks - stylish for a modern car.
I like the performance - particularly after 5k rpm but not really too shabby before then either for a NA 2.0 litre, especially when driven right.
I like the handling, not the last word in...
This forum really is lame at times. So many people just completely miss the point.
I've never, ever seen a forum that slags off the very car all its owners own as much as this one.
Well yours is 05 reg (so 6 months newer) and has half the miles. I cant see my dealer offering anything like £9800 for mine.
Apparently though, a good private sale could potentially net £9800... but I think I'd be lucky to get that even going private.
I might try the dealer anyway, I think...
Yep agreed. Normal day to day driving you could be forgiven for thinking the vRS feels faster (it does).... the Clio needs to be driven with intent, but when it is, its definitely a lot faster.
If it had a remap it would be closer, but in the end, there'd still be very little in it.
Theres another way to look at it: Perhaps the 172's have had all the warranty work done so you wont have to go through all the niggles.
Mine has been in the dealers at least 6 times in 6 months for niggles, and TBH its getting quite tiresome, even though i do like the car.
Is it just me who is dismayed by the lack of genuine hot hatches now with the true hot hatch ethos: Cheap, affordable, fast and fun, without any pretentions? A lot of cars can match most of that criteria, but the affordability is just getting silly now.
It just doesnt seem to exist. Christ...
^ Agreed. The Mk3 courtesy car (a DCI) that I had was built much better than my Mk2 182. Although I didnt think much of the colour of the dash in that one (like a beige colour) but I am sure the 197 will have a dark dash.
In fact I'd say the build quality on this Mk3 i had subjectively seemed...
It has 4 main problems for me.
1. Its ugly... but heck it might grow on me
2. Its FAR too high... I've driven a lesser model Mk3, and it made the Mk2 feel like a sports coupe in comparison
3. Its FAR too expensive
4. Its too heavy.
However, I think the real world price will be lower - I just...
I guess its possible we might see one. After all Nissan made a Micra V6 in a similar vain so it is possible on that chassis (although it was never released to the general public IIRC).
I think if a new V6 was released it would almost be a certainty to use the 3.5 V6 lump from the 350Z - and if...
It is funny how people choose to ignore professional roadtesters with proper testing equipment, i must agree with you there.
I think thats why I get so frustrated sometimes, because people really believe they know better than the experts.
Agree with that - when i had my diesel i was laughed at by some for saying the fastest way to drive it was to change up at the red line for the reason you say. But they all said to change up at 3500 rpm. I even offered to prove it to people but they declined.
Another interesting fact i guess...
The current one is relatively fast up to a point, but its pretty slow really anywhere near its current top speed. I havent paid enough attention but mine really seems to slow down much above about 120 anyway.
Furry muff then mate :)
I know about the cars becoming money pits - i had a Golf GTI Mk2 that was never out of the garage.
Funny enough though, even though it was slow (compared to the Clio anyway) it was more fun to drive, and its slowness didnt bother me at all.
A replacement head gasket and clutch is still a LOT cheaper than a new car.
If I'd had that much "spare" cash lying around, no way would I have bought a brand new car with it. I would have had a holiday or something, you know, life experience perhaps....
Thats going to lead you onto the...
LMAO. Thats the funniest comment I've read. If your S16 was so much better, why did you spend all that money on a clio.
It doesnt make sense to me, you could have bought one of those for £2k, but instead, you spent circa £10+ grand on an inferior car. PMSL
Ah well, never mind that figures PROVE which one is faster - you all go and believe what you want.
I believe its absolutely impossible for a car that weighs more and has less power can be faster and you will never, ever change my mind on that.
Did you know a 1.0 litre Micra is faster. After...
The figures dont lie.
Clio - 165ish bhp / tonne
306 - 135ish bhp / tonne
Also, according to most rag tests i've seen theres 3-4 seconds 0-100 between them.
I just dont get how people are saying these are quicker than clios. Because they arent. End of story.
Oh and BTW, i am not really...
306 doesnt have a 130 bhp diesel. It has a 90 bhp diesel. This can be tuned to 130 bhp with a remap and FMIC. This wouldnt be enough to worry a 172 though.
Neither would a standard GTI-6, which in rally form, is still a good 2 seconds slower to the ton than a 172.
Basically, it was a GTI-6...
I was making progress today on one of our B-roads, and a Golf GT TDI decided to try and prove how fast it was by putting his foot down... yeah quite nippy, but not quick enough, I was right up his chuff and had to back off the throttle.... so I let him go ahead a bit.
Then he tried to...
Not many here either, although an Integra Type R tried it on the other day.... funny enough he raced up behind me, road opened up to dual carriageway, I was ready, pulled away, so he didnt seem to want to try it on then... but then as soon as we got to a 40 road he all of a sudden didnt stop at...
