the cam duration is the 285 bit, the length of time the valve is open for. higher lift is pushing the valve open more. basically.
there is a lot more than that, but i'm not sitting here all night.
best bet is to ring a tuner and get the best one suitable to your application.

I'm 6 miles from Lincoln. i'd like (depending on price) a new s/s system for my 172 cup. i'm after a non stealth, quieter than my powerflow, 2.5 bore system, lots of freeflow to squeeze every last bhp out. i'll quite happily loan my car for the right discount.

well you learn something new everyday.....didn't know renault did a 182 cup, thought they were all 182 ff with cup packs.
Personally don't buy either. either get a trophy or a proper 172 cup.
I've done headwork. have you got high comp pistons? i'm also running 422 cams, are you? what do you think to them. was thinking about the next ones up......

no cos i'm still making 233 at 7800. the power curve doesn't drop, because i have breathing problems or did have (172 manifold, sportscat) and the cams want to make more power. once i have the 182 manifold on with the first box in the right place (tuned length) then i should have 240-245. peak...
standard clutch doesn't take 190. i'm running 177ft lbs and mine's just exploded. i would say it would take circa 200bhp.
uprated helix organic is only rated at 170 ftlb
gearbox weakness is rubbish, unless your gearchange is rubbish
