    Climate control issues

It was buzzing when I got the car so I removed it to try and clean it. I think I've inadvertently damaged it however as it doesn't work at all now. Serves me right for being too heavy handed lol.

    Climate control issues

I've been doing research and the cog issue seems to be very common. I've got a new sensor/fan on order, so if that doesn't fix it I'll investigate the cog next.

So my 172 is a bit of a problem child

I agree. Obviously if I'd known what I know now I probably would have walked when viewing the car, however gearbox was completely silent on test drive and the noise now is very faint. Lyndonn at Renatec said he probably wouldn't even have noticed it when he took it out for a test drive if I...

So my 172 is a bit of a problem child

Wow, that's not good. Did you fit a second hand one or have yours rebuilt?

So my 172 is a bit of a problem child

More than likely. Still, for what I paid for it I shouldn't complain too much. I intend on keeping it so I'll just work the the issues gradually

So my 172 is a bit of a problem child

Took my 172 to Renatec in Bristol today for an engine and gearbox oil change and to investigate a few issues. I thought I could hear a bit of noise from my gearbox, and it turns out that unfortunately there is a bit, although thankfully it's only slight, so not gearbox rebuild time just yet...

Car feels a bit unstable at speed

Not had alignment done as of yet, although doesn't pull to either side and no uneven tyre wear. Tyres are Falkens. Not the best, although certainly not the worst.

Clio 16v track car from scrap

I do love a valver it must be said. Had a blue one years ago and loved it :grinning:

Are the cup shocks a direct replacement for standard 172 items

Car feels a bit unstable at speed

I've had the car almost a fortnight now but not really had the chance to boot it a bit until yesterday. I noticed at around 90mph + (on a private road obviously, ahem) that the car feels a bit unstable, almost a bit 'skittish' for want of a better word. Obviously the car weighs relatively...

The 'What MPG Do You Get?' Thread

Low 30s on my 2003 172. Was reading in the high teens when I reset it, although it's gradually crept back up.

    Williams and 182

I remember driving a Williams about 15 years ago when I owned my 1.8 16v. Beforehand I was thinking it wouldn't be much different, but God was I wrong. My 16v was good, but the Williams was a different level. Love them.

High Mileage Club - 100K plus.

Had a 2004 Audi A3 2.0 TDI with just under 160k miles until last year. It drove well until it decided to eat it's gearbox. Sadly it is no more.

    Climate control issues

Unfortunately the climate control in my 172 is not working correctly. It generally blows cool air, regardless of what you do with the temperature control. Occasionally it will blow hot for short periods of time, particularly if you turn the engine off and restart it, although after a minute or...

Just picked up a bargain! 182 FF cup

Nice. Amazing what you can get for a grand - I only paid 950 for my 172 last week. Had to put four new tyres on it and it has a few niggles but I just see it as an ongoing project.

    Cone filter or standard airbox?

Looks nice. How much does a setup like that cost? I was looking at the Ktech ones but they cost a pretty packet.

    Cone filter or standard airbox?

Previous owner had fitted a cone filter/induction kit of unknown brand. He did give me the standard airbox and filter and from what I've read I'd probably be better off going back to standard. The induction kit does sound very nice though Lol. Thoughts?

    Clio 172 engine noise?

Yes, keeping an eye on the gauge and it never really goes above half, even after idling for 20 mins or so after driving. Is the CTS the temperature sensor?

    Clio 172 engine noise?

Yes, there does seem to be a stream of bubbles between the top smaller hose and the tank. The bottom video on my first post shows it (although quality isn't great unfortunately). Fingers crossed it is normal then.

    Clio 172 engine noise?

Thanks for that. Yeah, that one does not sound healthy. Is it yours? I'm going to book car into Renatec in Bristol for an oil change, hopefully next week. While it's there I'll ask them if they can investigate the stream of bubbles in my coolant reservoir. I did notice that the radiator fan is...

    Clio 172 engine noise?

No, my phone said file format not supported for some reason . Don't appear to be losing any coolant, engine temperature sits happily at half way and there's no mayonnaise on my filler cap or oil in my coolant. Maybe I just need to chill out and enjoy the car lol

    Clio 172 engine noise?

Yeah, it's difficult to get decent sound quality on a phone for sure. I'll be getting an oil change done soon using Elf 5w40 as don't know when previous owner last changed. Any ideas about the bubbling coolant? It's only a small stream if bubbles near the overflow pipe from the coolant...

    Clio 172 engine noise?

I had the engine running on my 172 today with the bonnet open and thought maybe the engine sounded a bit rattly or tappy. Maybe I'm imaging things as dephaser was done around 10k ago along with full top end rebuild. It sounds like it's coming more from the top of the engine, but perhaps they all...

    New 172 owner

Afternoon all I've owned my 172 for two days and I'm already smitten with it. Such a rewarding car to drive and very much a wolf in sheep's clothing. I've owned an 11 turbo and a clio 1.8 16v in the past and also driven a Williams and the 172 feels very much like the Williams, which is...
