I've always thought about that too, why there was no gravel or barrier separating that bit.
I know there's plenty of grass to run off on, but always a chance like you've pointed out.
Either there or out of Church (3) all the way to Rocket In (6) is flat out, top of 4th in a Clio so 105-110mph ish iirc.
Then there's a bit of run off on the grass then the embankment into oncoming traffic exiting turn 7 (I've seen it happen) 😂
Aye, they're a pain if not looked after.
I find they need coating with ACF corrosion block a few times a year to stop them seizing up and winding the stud out.
Same happened to a mates Megane on a track day and it was a right f**k about.

Yeah thermoplastic boots for outer and rubber inner, like a few Ford ones i've done.
I usually use the Oetiker clamps like pic 1.
How much clearance do you need?
Can you clamp them down tight and then flatten the tab a bit more with a hammer, i've done that before.
