Frayz's Inferno 182 - Back in the old flame

Not much to update but a few more odds and sods. Wen I first owned the car I fitted what was at the time a pretty high spec Alpine HU. FFwd to now and I wanted one that would stream from my phone as well as have a full high speed iPod connection. So swapped out the CDE-113BT for a CDE-178BT...

182... what upgrades would you fit to your perfect spec road car?

If I were to do it I think id get a single Pole Position or similar. Personally I've never been a fan of Trendlines at all both in appearance or comfort. I've got a carbon Prodrive Sparco from the Impreza i'm tempted to put in, but its bolsters are too high for a daily and it wouldn't suit the...

182... what upgrades would you fit to your perfect spec road car?

In my mind I fancy a proper drivers seat, a PMS shifter and Vibratechnic mounts. Just to get the feel and control of the car as it is now. As to be honets, as it is, its pretty sweet in terms of ride/handling. Some reduced body roll would be nice, but not sure I can achieve that without going to...

182... what upgrades would you fit to your perfect spec road car?

Agree there’s no definitive answer, however there is certainly a trend of well balanced components that make for a perfectly useable and comfortable but well focused road car. I’ve an alpine with Bluetooth and full speed iPod too. It’s essential for a road car imo. You say you’ve gone too far...

182... what upgrades would you fit to your perfect spec road car?

This is exactly the kind of reply I stated this thread for. The guys that have modded and then actually gone back to OE or a less extreme version of the upgrade in some instances. Cars that have been honed for the owners perfect idea of their road car.

182... what upgrades would you fit to your perfect spec road car?

Without wishing to digress the thread too much. When I first owned the Clio it was along side my Impreza and I can honestly say hand on heart that I had every bit as much fun in the 182 as I did in the Impreza dispite being a whole 400bhp short. I still own the Impreza although I’m breaking the...

How do you find the VT mounts day to day?

182... what upgrades would you fit to your perfect spec road car?

In fairness I was probably quite harsh by saying that nothing short of £500 per corner was worth looking at, however I do think that budget coilovers are absolute pants, and in my experience and not worth the agro of owning or fitting. Often they make the car worse both to drive and live with...

    Peel rivets

I bought a bag of 100 black peel rivets from RivetWise last week for £5.40 delivered. Its so cheap its not worth worrying about, i've got plenty of spares and arrived within a couple of days.

    Peel rivets

Rivetwise do them, its about £5 for 100, just buy a bag and have spares :)

This is very true, but seeing as I have another car and this is just my fun daily. I'd like to think you guys have a good idea of where I' coming from when I say perfect road car. You know my history more than most so know the kind of thing im looking for :)

Sounds like a lovely car :) Not sure im familiar with an R3 airbox? Already have braided hoses as I fitted these on my first tenure of the car. Uprated dogbone mount has indeed been ordered and is on route. :)

So get a VT gearbox mount? Uprated DB I’ve ordered. Is there any truth in the an OEM Kangoo upper mount being firmer that that of a stock Clio mount?

So what’s the overall thoughts on the PMS shifter and Vibratechnics mounts on a road car? Yay or nay?

182... what upgrades would you fit to your perfect spec road car?

15s, not a bad idea. I used to drive on NS2Rs & RSRs all year, but currently only on PS3s. Wonder if 15s would look too small without coilovers as the the relatively subtle drop of the Eibachs may make the car look odd on 15s

AWM is doing the belts and clutch on the 17th of this month so it should be bang on.

182... what upgrades would you fit to your perfect spec road car?

Pretty much as expected. Not really bothered about upping the power to be honest, but if it would help up the torque and smooth the drivability it wouldn't hurt.

182... what upgrades would you fit to your perfect spec road car?

Interesting a few folk mention a map. I'm still on the stock map, but wonder how much improvement is available in the drivability? Engine Dynamics are my local tuners for these I assume, much to be had from a £200 quid tweek?

182... what upgrades would you fit to your perfect spec road car?

I've got Sportlines on my otherwise stock Cup chassis and although they do look better, the OEM Cup springs rode better. Agree coilovers are superb if they're very high spec units. However my idea of decent coilover suspension is more than the cost of most 182s. Ha

    Aftermarket steering wheel conundrum!

Big fan of the MOMO Prototipo myself. Leather for a daily or alcatara/suede and wear gloves. No smaller than 330mm

182... what upgrades would you fit to your perfect spec road car?

Not sure what coilovers would offer over cup dampers other than ride height adjustment at their price point. In my experience with suspension, id need to spend a minimum of £500 a corner to buy coilovers worth fitting IMO. £2k vs £140 for Cup dampers is a tough spend, especially when the ride...

182... what upgrades would you fit to your perfect spec road car?

Reluctant to add an induction kit unless it were to be a genuine improvement, rather add a better cold feed to the OEM box maybe? I was tempted on some PMS topmounts but also reluctant to drill holes in the car

All good feedback, So the inspiration to this thread is that I've recently bought back my old 182 that I owned from almost new (8k miles). Keen to make the car as focused and enjoyable as possible without ruining it. Its my daily drive, and I do 50 miles a day in it across b roads and country...

Morning all, So many threads on here about track cars and race style parts, because lets be honest. The Little 1*2s make for a superb track day machine in any spec. Yet not all of us have our Clios as track cars. With that in mind, what mods would you fit to your perfect road car? Many of you...

    My Black Gold (no)mod thread

I’ve just ordered a box of black 14mm head peel rivets for these. You ideally want to use Peel rivets as they’re designed for clamping softer materials such as plastic and wood. I’ll be doing this job soon and spraying the sills with Bilt Hamber before refitting.
