hmm. Normally you need to spend circa £50 on some components before you can major improvements. I've heard hertz are supposed to be good. I've had infinity ones before, good at medium and high volume, but not enough cone movement for good bass at low volume.
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
that's the max load capacity of the trailer. Provided you keep the towcar and total trailer load under 3.5ton and the combined trailer and load doesent exceed the unladen weight of the towcar, you don't need a trailer licence.
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
not as far as I am aware. I would certinally want a twin for doing any car towing. All you need to do then is balance it up correctly (iirc 60-100kgs weight at the hitch).
edit: should mention that most trailers say what they weigh on a plate on them. 300kg...
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
I've been looking into it mate. was bidding on a passat.
Passat B4 110bhp TDI (mighty cheap) - 1500kg braked tow weight, but we'd be limited by the cars weight which is 1406kg - 53MPG and 800mile range. General good barge, and everyone wants a B5 so the B4...
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
I don't get it. You bought the seats or the whole shell? :S
BTW, you read this. You can tow on our 'younguns' licences, Just need a really heavy tow car.

the best handling modification i've ever experienced has been a stiffer rear ARB. Pretty well all FWD cars come setup to under steer as it's safer. You can get them back to a good balance by adding some roll stiffness to the rear
Man I need to get on and do mine at some point. Nice work. Can I ask where you got the sill from? I assume it's a 1.2/1.4 sill? Did it come with the top part/where did you get that? I've been told they are different from the valver/williams sills but I'm yet to work out how. Any extra info you...
ah, so they are still really picky about what systems they run on? iirc it needs an old version of java, no adobe reader (or something), etc etc the list goes on.
Don't like it really. Still looks like something my mum would drive, with some wheels slapped on it.
What's all this about fords being unreliable though? They are solid cars tbh. Very differnent to escorts of old.
What copy of dialogys have you managed to get running on windows 7, or is it vista? Was it hard and where could I source a copy?
cheers (apologies for hi-jack)
It's mechanical proportional control. So it will sit just a little open to keep you just at the right temperature. I can't see the benefits of ditching as I don't think they are a major reliability weakness. When they go, they always always fail open (excess cooling), it's fail-safe design...
mine made a lovely noise when it ran low on oil. fine on tickover. Little rev RAT-TAT-TAT-TAT. Nice.
F4R next surely. The conversion is down to a tee now.
But what about your thermal efficiency. You'll literally loose power to the cylinder wall. Every little helps an that ;) Keep it, it's not like 172s have issues keeping the water temps down. Especially if you give it a little run-down after a trash.
looks excellent. Really loving some of the little touches.
On a side note, the fully open thermostat - I'm not so sure. Will that not just cause your ECU to limit your revs, reduce your thermal efficiency and cause the car to richen up the mixture? Not good for power.
Re: Cup TT ??
next time you drive your 20v, try and work out what it is that makes it boring, mechanically. I bet you'll find it's something like it's got too heavy a flywheel or something. These are all things that can be changed. Don't confuse a boring setup with a boring engine.
apologies...
Re: Cup TT ??
Normally "not a fun engine" also means really really linear torque and a lovely clean power curve with no 'kicks'. They can be mapped in if you want them....
tbh, are you positive it's not the chassis that lacks lols?
Re: Cup TT ??
:S 102@5907 is not as leggy as I was hoping :(
owned on the magazine! Was having trouble coming up with mounts for the N/S. and FYI I don't make a habbit of writing into magazines! lol
edit: oops, I get it, they are both 4th! lol
