If that's the case. That's quite a lot. make sure you keep an eye on it. You may find it is the rocker cover. If not, it could be a number of other things including valve stem seals or even as simple as leaks around the filter.
always check the oil when the car is cold (particularly with diesels) and always on a level surface.
If your worried about consumption, the ONLY thing you can do for the minite is monitor it. Check the level as often as you can be bothered and don't fill till it's nearly at the lower limit...
Hang on a min. Driveshafts and ABS are related. The ABS ring is on the driveshaft. The sensor is on the hub. You say you've had a driveshaft failure -> Was it the outboard CV joint? When these fail, it's because the CV boot clip has broken free and CV grease has been lost. When mine went, I got...
Defi gauges are cool as fook. But that car is badly done IMO, don't see the appeal.
That side profile of the M3 on the other hand is one of the best pictures ever. Those cars are hawt. Probably why they are still worth £30k!
Why does everyone keep on suggesting the temperature sensors for these? It's definitely the thermostat, especially if the temperature gauge is reacting to conditions like rain where there is extra cooling.
Drop in economy comes from the engine running richer becuase it's cold.
very nice laingo. When I've got some cash together I think I'll get on ebay, see what I can get for 5 or 600.
Bicester is just up the road from me fred, I'll ask about that, cheers.
That's my thinking. It's an interesting project. Admittedly, I can't see the gains with a turbo setup, but that doesen't mean it's not worth doing if your interested.
well at the end of the thread the geezer gives up! Develops a boost leak from the injector seals and says he'd need new injectors and a different rail to complete it so gives up. Massive dissapointment tbh. I've never seen anything quite like it for road use. I'm thinking V8 with barrell...
Quite a techie one here, but i enjoyed it.
Scoob STi......with.....
Roller barrell throttles - normal butterfly throttles still have the minor restriction of the butterfly at full chat, hence why F1 use barrell type throttles.
This guy is thinking the same way, and has even put in...

My Guide.
I wouldn't descirbe it as a "peice of p1ss", lol. But it's certinally do-able at home. You'll probably want 10 and 13mm ratchet spanners, for the exhaust studs and the rack pinch bolt. There shouldn't need to be any need to unbolt...
Bit of trawling round the web and I've learnt that Mild and stainless steel require DC current and AC is used for ally. Some of the cheaper welders only do DC
Also Argon seems suitable for all 3 materials.
Still no idea what a welder would cost me though, £300-1000, no idea.
Thanks
Any idea what I should be buying in terms of current range and new/2nd hand cost?
I'd probably never go beyond 5-6mm and most of what I'd do would be 3mm or less.
Are different gases required for stainless and ally?
Edit: and oh my god, I just managed to get a PM through to Fred. Have...
I'm considering learning and possibly buying a TIG. My main questions are
Anyone taught themselves to TIG? How? Just practice?
Advice on buying a welder, particularly current range and brands to look out for
Apart from the ability to weld ally, what advantages are there over MIG?
Cheers,
Mark
It'd be something i'd recommend. Engine will feel far more lively. OEM flywheels are only heavy to make the car easier to drive smoothly, and a bit smoother to drive.
If your going to get it balanced, consider doing the whole hog, which is fly+crank+rods.
