£195, a new 182 loses more than that every single month in depreciation!
Somehow though I just get the feeling that a FSH doesnt add anything to the value of the car as you still get n0bs coming around kicking tyres and wanting to pay rock bottom prices.
The Clio was half a second quicker around the tight and twisty track in the autocar test - issue: 7th Dec 04 is the one you are referring to. If you actually read the test though you will see why they scored the WRX behind the Golf despite it being quicker than the Golf. The brakes on the WRX...
Looks well nice that car. I still like the styling of the Mk1 172.
I would keep it as the mods you have done will have reduced the value to the point where it aint worth selling. I am the same though. I am 29 and the longest I have owned any car is 15 months! Planning on keeping this one 3...
For those that arent in spain check the Shell site for the nearest garage that stocks Optimax!
This is another reason why I cant understand people whod rather use 95RON to save money. I drive out of my way to get fuel but I dont even count how much extra that costs me to travel as I will often...
Downside of the 182 is those two exhausts as they kind of give the game away and spoil the fun. Would be more fun having a 172/Cup as to the untrained eye (Audi TT drivers etc) they look identical to the 1.2s that old ladies drive to Tesco....
You know those days where your car feels fast and other days where it feels slow - down to humidity/air temp/pressure etc. Well the difference optimax makes to me seems to be about the same as that. Very subtle and obviously due to changing weather conditions its no good running a few weeks...
If the car is "adjusting" that means it is retarding the ignition.... and what will that do to performance?
Now some people say the 172/182 engine has fixed timing. Disappointing if it does as even my Vectra used to adjust the timing as per readings from the knock sensor. If the timing is set...
Glad you know more about engines than Renault, they have only been building cars for a hundred years so yeah I wouldnt believe anything they say :)!!! Guess they put that sticker on the filler flap for laugh?
For the record the only oil company selling 98 RON in the UK is Shell, none of the...
Renault tell you to use 98 RON. If you cant afford 5p a litre more then you better ask yourself whether you can afford the two thousand pounds a year in depreciation or a car that only does 35mpg and eats tyres and brake pads like sweets. I.e. you have the wrong car.
I mean £1.20 a week extra...
I am sure that Cooper could have been traded in for a brand new DCI and IMO they are more pokey than the 1.2 and do 70mpg easily so save money.
The 1.2 is a good engine though, I used to get 50mpg and sometimes 55mpg per tank by driving very carefully.
Fuel aint really the biggest cost...
First and most obvious question, are you absolutely 100% sure it was a 1.2 16v you tested and not a 1.6?
You would love a DCI 80 at low revs, maybe you should have tried one? Equally you would not be at all impressed with a 182.
I went from a 1.2 16v to a Vectra SRI 150 2.2. The Veccy was a...
Really stupid question having owned 3 Clios but does it have two reverse lights because some cars only have one? Havent looked myself!!
Also the foglights dont work when using autolights? You have to manually switch the headlights lights on to get the fogs to work?
Could be that nothing is...
Never said we didnt go over 100, never said we did! Gotta be careful cos of the rules....
Clio accelerates very hard until about 120 when you have to put it into 5th. At that point it accelerates disappointingly slowly - thats when you need another 18bhp. I can say that I have never been over...
My mate has a CTR - its a pre facelift with AC (a bit of extra weight) and 43k on the clock so far better run in than my 3k 182. We have test driven each others cars and swapped cars and gone out on a drive.
Coming off of roundabouts the CTR cant keep up with the 182. You stir the box like...
OK I have just got back from buying one. Havent used it yet tho. I think you lot are trying to use it for the wrong purpose.
I will use it to go over the car with a soft brush and dislodge all the dirt before getting my bucket of autoglym shampoo and doing the car properly with my meguiars...
The bloke two doors down brought his up whilst I was washing my car yesterday! Looked interesting but I didnt have the hose out so couldnt try it.
I will probably buy one just to soften all the dirt and muck up on the car before washing it proper. If I can spray the shampoo whilst using a soft...
Yeah I had two platinum Clios then went to a black Vectra....
I had to do Brazos mini masterclass every single time I washed the car otherwise it looked brown, smudged and swirled! Washing the car was an eight hour job! After a few days or one rain shower it was back to brown again!
Going...
LMFAO! I cant believe you lot would spend so much time polishing a titanium! I just wash mine in Autoglym shampoo and chamois it off and thats it!
Thats why I bought a titanium!
I tried Super Resin/Meguiars etc on one half of the bonnet not long after I got the car and no one could guess...
I remember posting and saying I should have got a Type R after my 182 ran into trouble!
Then my mate got a Type R....
His has had far more go wrong with it than my 182 and it certainly isnt quicker but it sure cost more.
Look on the bright side. You have a courtesy car and your car is being fixed for free.
There are who people spend more on second hand cars than you spent on your new Clio and they have stuff go wrong that costs them money to fix and they have to go without a car and catch the bus!
The short silver strip on the drivers side of mine was scratched when I got the car. I kicked up a fuss and got it replaced.
They did damage the dash a bit when swapping it over but you can barely see it without a magnifying glass so I just let it go.
Renault need to aim for 1100kg maximum for the full fat leather seat/climate control model. Regardless of BHP the low weight is essential for handling.
As for power, I wouldnt really want to give a figure. I would worry if they got 200bhp out of the existing engine or a slight evolution of it...
At the end of the day what with the all build quality issues etc does anyone here have any brand loyalty?
In two and a half years time when I come to buy my next car I will do exactly what I did six months ago. I will compare all the models on the market and buy the one that gives the best...
From experience I dont think any of the cars in your list will feel any quicker than your 172 so I wouldnt upgrade purely for performance.
If you want more reliability and better build quality be very careful with the CTR as my mates has had a fair bit of niggling problems.
Perhaps your...
Get an Elise but the one with a Vauxhall badge on the front.
Basically the same as a normal Elise but...
Quicker than a normal Elise and makes a laughing stock out of a V6.
Doesnt break down as often as a normal Elise or V6.
